Leaked Dock Connector Implies Thinner, Lighter iPhone 5

Is this the Dock Connector for the iPhone 5 with its viscera hanging loose? Taiwanese site Apple.pro certainly thinks so, and as the guys who first posted pictures of the touchscreen to the new iPod Nano, they’ve got a decent history of getting their hands on parts of unannounced Apple products. So maybe!

The new Dock Connector is slightly narrower than the part found in the current iPhone, and is part number 821-1300-02, compared to 821-1281-A for the Verizon iPhone. It certainly looks legit, even if it doesn’t tell us much except that the next iPhone will be a smidge thinner.

On the other hand, Apple.pro says that the larger iPhone 5front panel we saw earlier today is a phony, and they stick by their previous prediction that the iPhone 5 would feature a slide-out keyboard, which is so patently crazy that I’ll just finish this post on up with a snort.

Yeah, no way a slide-out iPhone is ever going to happen. It’s against their design principles in so many ways. :) But I’m still wishing for the Tracfone iPhone…

No offense, but I think we’ll see a slide-out iPhone before we see a Tracfone iPhone. :\

Why does Apple keep trying to make the iPhone thinner and thinner? I’m certain Apple is trying to lower the cost of the product by using less materials, but Apple should really keep the iPhone the same thickness and get more battery life which I’m certain consumers would prefer. Might as well keep a little heft in the iPhone so it feels solid. I’d also like to see a Tracfone iPhone, but what’s the point if a person still has to pay for all those damn data minutes. I’m always watching the minutes on mine despite it being a double minute phone and using double minute coupons. And I don’t even have much use for a cellphone but occasionally long conversations can eat up minutes pretty quickly.

So what you’re saying is: “I don’t even need an iPhone, so Apple should make the kind of phone I don’t need.” If you’re saying anything at all; it’s hard to decipher.
