Vitamin Water may be the 2011 equivalent of snake oil, but now those bus shelter ads have got some actual juice: you can hook up your iPhone or iPod to charge on the go.
The ads featuring USB ports will be rolled out in Boston, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. They are the brainchild of Crispin Porter + Bogusky — the same Mac-happy guys behind Microsoft’s “Laptop Hunters” campaign.
Your next endless wait for public transport means you can probably fully charge your devices on the 5-volt battery powered USB port.
The ads are “part of the soft drink brand’s ‘You’re Up’ campaign, underlining its message that it is formulated to provide a quick boost when you are on the go.”

Perhaps this is a way for them to get around those pesky laws about misleading customers. Now when they say they give you energy when you’re on the go, they it won’t be a lie.

Huh? Why are the 5V ports battery powered, when the stations usually have electricity for lighting, etc readily available…
The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
