iPhone 3GS Dropped In Pool, Records Video Underwater

Is the iPhone 3GS waterproof? This one kept recording, even after its owner dropped it in a swimming pool.

Is the iPhone 3GS waterproof? This one kept recording, even after its owner dropped it in a swimming pool.

A Parisian iPhone owner was videoing friends in a backyard swimming pool when he accidentally dropped it in the water. Amazingly, the iPhone kept recording and was working fine when he fished it out.

“It still frickin’ works,” he says amazed into the still-recording camera. Watch the video of the entire episode below.

And it still works fine, says the owner. “Phone still working fine with no issues whatsoever,” he says in the comments to the video. “I’m probably the luckiest guy alive!!”

Although the iPhone 3GS is an exceptionally well-made piece of hardware, it is NOT waterproof. This iPhone had a rubbery condom cover on, which probably helped it survive the dip in the pool.

    it looks a little fake. as in he dropped the phone into the water on purpose. if I were to get a 3GS now, it has been less than a month since I got it cos it was announced on the 17June. I will be screaming my lungs out if I were to accidentally drop my phone into the water.

    Or it is just a prank.

    That is hilarious! I can’t believe that it still worked afterward. Thumbs up to apple for making the iPhone 3gs more resilient to our thrashing. This is a really funny video that I am going to have to share with my friends and family. I love how he says at the end, “Wait! It still freakin’ works!”. Also have to love the cool water sounds as it plops into the water and sinks to the bottom of the pool. ; ) Wonder how many other crazy videos similar to this one will start popping up now that the iPhone can record video. Can’t wait for more. ; )

    @macfollower,
    I doubt it is fake. I’m sure he was swearing but probably while the phone was sinking to the bottom and he was jumping in to retrieve it. ; ) I can imagine that I to would also be very surprised to see the phone still recording and working if I had just pulled it out of a pool.

    I admire everything that is from apple but i think I don’t want to believe this video, sorry..

    Sounds like iPhone 3BS

    [...] Das iPhone 3GS verfügt ja über Videokapazität, und tuaw hat einen netten Artikel online, der über alles erklärt. Auf jeden Fall mal drüber lesen (für alle die English können)!? In Miami gab es nun den ersten TV-Beitrag, der (nahezu) komplett mit dem iPhone 3GS erstellt wurde. Der Reporter hat sich selbst gefilmt, und dann mit der Voice Memo Applikation eine Narration eingespielt. Zusammegeschnitten wurde es mit Final Cut Pro. (via tuaw) ?Und in Paris hat ein iPhone sogar schon Unterwasseraufnahmen gemacht! Der Besitzer des besagten Gerätes hat Freunde im Pool gefilmt, als sein iPhone zum Tauchgang ansetzte. Das Gerät filmte weiter und funktionierte danach ohne Probleme weiter. Das iPhone hatte eine Gummischutzhülle, was den Großteil des Wassers wahrscheinlich abhielt. (dank an cultofmac) [...]

    Definitely a set-up. It’s too obvious. He’s filming with the sole purpose of ‘accidentally’ dropping his phone into the water and also the reaction after the dive is clearly not one of genuine surprise.
