Images have surfaced of an iPod touch equipped with a capacitive home screen button and 128GB of storage space. The device is marked with a “DVT-1” badge previously found on an iPod touch discovered back in 2010, and thought to be the code Apple uses to identify prototype devices.
Other than the capacitive home button and the increased storage, it doesn’t look like anything else is different in these pictures with regards to hardware. However, what’s interesting is that it looks like the device is running version 4.2.1 of iOS, suggesting that it may have been in testing for some time.
The quality of the pictures is poor, and it looks as though the build quality of the device is just as bad – indicating that the device featured is rather a fake than a next-generation iPod prototype.

The images were first published by 9to5 Mac, who contemplated just skipping over the email, but chose instead to post the pictures up for discussion.
What do you think? Next-gen iPod touch or just a fake? Let us know in the comments.

I’m thinking fake. 128GB would be nice, though. :)
if they came out with a 128Gb touch I could dump my 160Gb iPod classic
To me the home key has been photoshopped out, have a closer look, can almost see the round ring…
The mere idea of a capacitive home button is insane – just getting your finger close to it would quit whatever you’re doing and take you to the home screen. Hardly user-friendly.
the first picture is clearly photoshopped, you can see how they used the clone tool on the left side of the button.
then the 128 gb the 8 looks blurry, which means fake most of the time. -.-
the DVT looks pretty real, this could be a prototype but not a 128 gb or with a captive button.
c’mon i can make a better mock-up
agreed. Unless it is programmed to require a double tap or some such to avoid hitting it.
that said, the photo was clearly shopped if you look you can see the adjustments.
photoshop… take a close look at the smears. i’m quite sure.
