iCloud Will Be Like Oxygen For iPhone Owners

A new survey finds nearly all iPhone owners will use upcoming iCloud and iMessage. However, avoiding the new Apple services may be like deciding to not breathe.

Are you planning to use iCloud when it arrives? Of course you are. Apple knows it and now there is a survey to back up their self-confidence. More than three-fourth (76 percent) of iPhone users are very likely or somewhat likely to use iCloud services, according to RBC Capital Markets. Additionally, almost three out of four (73 percent) of iPhone owners will adopt iMessage to text other iOS 5 users. The only major selling job expected for Apple will be the $25 per month iTunes Match service that upgrades your music.

However, the survey results don’t illustrate how interconnected iPhone users will become with iCloud, making it virtually impossible not to use the services – even if you are unaware. From storing your tunes, to syncing your iOS device to sharing family pictures via PhotoStream, iPhone, iPad and iPod owners will become tethered to the Apple mothership – and that’s something the tech giant prefers.

But the iCloud shouldn’t be viewed with a Big Brother mentality. After all, we don’t get angry at our bodies for involuntarily breathing-in oxygen. The Internet is this age’s equivalent – and like music distribution, Apple is making it as simple as just breathing.

    It is $25 a year, not $25 a month (thankfully :)

    I keep seeing this all over the place, but According to Apples website iTunes Match is $25 a year.

    I understand there is a fee for the iTunes service, but is the icloud parrot that? ICloud is a syncing service?

    But, the Apple ID issue will be like sucking on CO2 when you think there’s oxygen.  OK, bad metaphor  :)

    Many people have 2 or more Apple IDs.   And reading the forums, Apple’s answer is “too bad” – they have historically not merged apple IDs at all.   Now we have a service that depends on an Apple ID to work. 

    I have two IDs.  A real Apple ID, for registering aple care and mac purchases.  And an itunes ID – for those old farts like me, when itunes first came out, Apple wanted you to make a different ID for the itunes store.   Now which ID do I use for the cloud??   

    Read the forums and there are people with 3-5 IDs;  and families that use multiple IDs.  Apple support has been mum on how we will use the cloud with which ID, and even now Apple still refuses to merge Apple IDs (as people are trying to merge them as a pre-cloud housekeeping.)

    The cloud seems to have hit a speed bump even before it’s release…

    According to the WWDC Keynote (http://events.apple.com.edgesu… the cost for iTunes Match I believe is $25 annual fee.

    Your case is very simple and easy. You’ll use your iTunes ID for Store setting and new or existing Apple ID for iClouds. But anyone who have more than 2 IDs then.. best of lucks.

    Well, at the moment http://www.me.com is inaccessible AGAIN; if you try to log on, you’re automatically taken to the ‘Find My iPhone’ page. Apple are going to have to do a better job on iCloud then they have with bloody piss-poor MobileMe…

    Yeah your case is simple. Use the iTunes ID for everything moving forward, including new registration and mac purchases. Eventually the AppleCare will expire for the items on your old ID and you can retire it. I don’t see that you actually have a problem whatsoever.
