The newest Mac OS X Malware, MACDefender, has taken the Apple community by storm. Some are claiming that Mac Malware is getting worse, and even Apple won’t help you with this one. Fortunately, if you’ve been infected with this pesky new malware, the solution to uninstalling it is quite simple. It only takes a minute or two, and if you follow the steps outline in this video, your Mac should be back to normal in no time. Alternatively, here’s a text guide if you’d prefer that.

Please remember that this not a virus…it is a Trojan horse. A virus will propagate automatically without user interaction. (There are zero viruses in the wild for the Mac.) This particular Trojan horse uses social engineering (in this case fear) to trick the unsuspecting user into entering personal finacial information which can then be used by someone else.
Can we use the proper terms here? As Apsco points out, it’s a Trojan not a virus. More to the point, it’s not Malware it’s IdiotWare. It doesn’t attack OS X, it attacks idiots using OS X. Nobody blamed Microsoft when all those idiots kept opening up alleged naked pictures of Anna Kournikova, and likewise, this isn’t an Apple problem. It’s an Idiot problem.
lolz? It even has an installer? So it’s not really a virus or whatever. youe ven need to click through the installer to get it! then it’s your own fault! every 10 yr old kid could write a “virus” for mac os x if that’s what you consider a virus lol.

was impenetrable. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows XP machine an it works like the Great Wall of China. No Apple security application can beat that. This is one of reasons why I have a great website.

Nice video…and thanks for spelling out the steps for people who are wondering what to do about the MacDefender thing. There are so many incomplete and unclear articles out there about this, it’s nice to see one that is complete and clearly put together.
Unfortunately though, the main problem is that so many users will fall for all these moronic scams…will click on anything that says “VIRUS!!!!”…and there’s not much any of us can do to help them.
Yeah, that stops it from running. I hate when any app leaves stuff behind, though. I tested this uninstall myself on a test machine I have. You might want to update this with instructions on how to delete these last 2 things:
~/Library/Preferences/com.aple.sv.plist~/Library/Caches/com.aple.sv.plist/

I also just found 3 .txt files in the user folder hat I guess it uses as a reference to show you your machine and app stats.
