Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Coming Soon: Steve Jobs, the Sitcom

Fake Steve creator Dan Lyons just signed a deal to bring Steve Jobs to another small screen near you.
The half-hour series called “iCon” is billed by the presser as “a savage satire centering on a fictional Silicon Valley CEO whose ego is a study in power and greed.”
Making sure the barbs prick will be the [...]

What’s Next For the iPad? A Tabletop iPad, According to Xerox PARC Circa 1991

Way back in 1991, just as Apple was transitioning from 68k to PowerPC chips, the braniacs at Xerox PARC were predicting it’s entire iPod, iPhone and iPad strategy. And next up for the iPad is a blackboard-sized device.
Nearly 20 years ago, just as personal desktop computers were taking off, researchers at Xerox started thinking about [...]

A new app called Silent Bodyguard features a panic button that sends an SOS distress signal with GPS coordinates to potential rescuers without alerting onlookers.

Gary Go Makes Cool Tunes on His iPhone, Videos on His Mac

iphone-songwriter-415x272

Brit pop man-of-the moment Gary Go calls his iPhone the “fifth member of his band”  and was the first musician to rock out on the device in front of 70,000 fans.

Go was on our radar last spring, when it was announced that he’d be using his iPhone to accompany his opening act, along with a four member human band, for boy band veterans Take That at London’s Wembley Stadium.

More on facing fans armed with an iPhone and the video after the jump.

How’d the iPhone concert go?

Swell, Gary, tells CNN. His biggest fear was that he might get a call during the set. --  thankfully he remembered to lock in airplane mode before hitting the stage.

His apps of choice are Cordica and Beatmaker, but if you’re expecting to hear some obvious synth pop, you won’t be going Gary’s way.

Go’s debut self-titled album hits US airwaves this week, sweeping, catchy ballads like “Wonderful” have already earwormed their way into car commercials in Europe. Though many musicians are using the iPhone to make music, Go is doing a lot to make it mainstream.

But Gary takes geek music one step further with this video for “Circles,” which he claims to be the first ever shot on 21 borrowed MacBooks and Photobooth.

What next? A video shot on an iPod nano, maybe…

    Hi Nicole!

Just thought to pop in a quick editorial note on a typo that unfortunately CNN made.

It’s most likely that one of the instruments Gary mentioned is actually spelt “Chordica” and not “Cordica”. This can be cross-referenced with several other news bites on Gary and the iPhone apps he uses. An example here:

    http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/mobile-and-making-music-20090902-f73f.html

Chordica’s main site is http://www.chordica.com and every time Gary mentions it, I feel really blessed. You see, I’m the creator of the Chordica. :)

    Best regards,

I don’t see how this video has anything to do with Gary Go. He’s not in the band, and I’m not sure if he was involved in the filming of it either.
