Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Coming Soon: Steve Jobs, the Sitcom

Fake Steve creator Dan Lyons just signed a deal to bring Steve Jobs to another small screen near you.
The half-hour series called “iCon” is billed by the presser as “a savage satire centering on a fictional Silicon Valley CEO whose ego is a study in power and greed.”
Making sure the barbs prick will be the [...]

What’s Next For the iPad? A Tabletop iPad, According to Xerox PARC Circa 1991

Way back in 1991, just as Apple was transitioning from 68k to PowerPC chips, the braniacs at Xerox PARC were predicting it’s entire iPod, iPhone and iPad strategy. And next up for the iPad is a blackboard-sized device.
Nearly 20 years ago, just as personal desktop computers were taking off, researchers at Xerox started thinking about [...]

A new app called Silent Bodyguard features a panic button that sends an SOS distress signal with GPS coordinates to potential rescuers without alerting onlookers.
While the $3.99 app, available on iTunes, isn’t the first ICE (in case of emergency) app, this one is backed by Dr. Clint Van Zandt, former FBI chief hostage negotiator and criminal [...]

    Beautiful!
I have a similar collection of mice hanging in my studio. I also have several various of the colored “hockey pucks”, a IIgs mouse, and a Lisa mouse.
    Neat!

@And 25 years later and the concept of ergonomics still eludes them.

Yeah, this really makes it crystal clear how bad in general Macintosh mice are. There are only a few winners in this bunch.

Personally, I’ve always thought it the flaw in having Steve Jobs personally critique every product Apple makes. Obviously different people like different kinds of mice, and clearly, what Steve Jobs thinks is a good mouse design is not what most other people think is a good mouse design.

Watch Steve when he does a demo next time. He holds the mouse like it’s a piece of poo at the end of his fingers with his hand arched up above it. Only a couple of people out of every hundred hold a mouse that way.

Yes the Apple mouse is easily the worst part of the design history for Macintosh.
I love Mac but use Microsoft mice!
The new one is the best but the battery is flawed and anti-environment, iron given the green publicity.

    Cool pics!

    @Ged

Smart people think alike, not different. Buying a Mac and using a Microsoft mouse is the best way to use your fruit ^_^

Wirelessly, the Microsoft Arc is hot. G33K hot.

The newest wireless Apple Mouse is actually decent… but IMHO the hard/sharp edges need to be tapered.

My all-time favorite Apple Mouse was the (single-button) beige oval mouse that shipped with the beige G3 PowerMacs, that was the mouse that sold for a decade prior to the introduction of the nasty “hockey puck” for original iMac.

I’m sitting here looking at the lineup, and realizing that I’m 3 steps out of date.

PS: After 20 years of using ONLY mac mice – no Carpel Tunnel issues here.

I like the new Magic Mouse it’s so great^^
