Funky Headgear and Stadium Cheers at Milan’s Apple Store Opening

Milan’s first Apple retailer is not in the heart of the fashionable city, as we noted last week, but that didn’t stop people from turning out in groovy headgear and giving stadium cheers for the first to walk out with the signature inauguration tee after camping out overnight.
Giving a touch of style to the event, web designer Marco Tognoli came adorned in Apple logos from old iMac G3s, topped by this fanciful conical hat with a real apple on top:

Proving Apple fans will live up to Milan’s reputation for daring fashion to open Apple’s second Italy store. (Hit the jump for more pics).

@Marco Tognoli. His Apple inauguration headgear in the making.
Marco won an award for “best Apple headgear” for which he was rewarded an iPod Shuffle 4G by Italian website Mac City.

“My dad wasn’t too happy about sacrificing all those apples that I carved out get the right look,” Marco told CoM. “Once I got it right, I painted it by hand, then glued it carefully on top of a funnel.”
He topped the look off with Apple stickers (including one at heart level) ok, so it might not grace a Milan catwalk, but it is undoubtedly suited to an Apple store launch.
As per my earlier rant, I opted to be elsewhere (heeding the siren call of Parma’s prosciutto festival) but it looks like a good time was had by all — and they were quite a crowd.

well the headgear contest was unique but the cheering, t-shirts etc is done at every opening.

“signature inauguration tee” as in the one they give out at openings — sorry if that wasn’t clear
