Facebook’s mobile messaging client, Facebook Messenger, has received its second update since its original release in the App Store at the beginning of the month.
Facebook Messenger 1.0.2 fixes numerous bugs and adds links to phone numbers and addresses. Unfortunately, folks outside of the US still don’t have access to the app.
Changelog:
- Improved ability to copy and paste text
- Added links to phone numbers and addresses
- Fixed issue that sometimes caused the app to crash
Since the app’s initial launch, Facebook users outside of the US have been clamoring for the app’s availability internationally. We’re not sure why Facebook Messenger is still restricted to the US App Store, but it could be related to Facebook wanting to test the new app in the States first.
We’ll let you know when Facebook Messenger is available in other countries. But for now, US readers can grab it for free in the App Store.

“Unfortunately, folks outside of the US still don’t have access to the app.”that doesn’t explain why i have this app running on my iPhone and I’m in canada
hacker!! just kidding just kidding
@twitter-19699905:disqus I guess you haven’t heard? Canada is now just another state. ;)
I’m in Canada too, and I also have access to FB Messenger
Me three, I am Canadian and I have Facebook Messenger. :P
I don’t know who gave you the info but FB messenger has been available in Canada since the start.
Because Facebook has no idea what people actually want.
Every time a new facebook feature comes out it always sucks. STILL no dislike button.
I think there’s a philosophical, if not simply psychological, reason there’s no “Dislike” button.
Also, Messenger might be a stroke of brilliance on Facebook’s part. Even if you hate Facebook, there’s no denying that many people you know use it, and if you have an account, it’s possible you’ll receive a message on Facebook. So what do you do if you don’t like FB itself? Get Messenger. Now, you have multiple platform text messaging… a trick Apple won’t even accomplish once iMessages is released. And even if it DOES release iMessage inside of an iChat upgrade, it still won’t be available to Windows users.
I hate FB, but I really like Messenger. Just don’t give them your phone number.
This is a good test to see how interested CultofMac are in accuracy and fanbase support… it seems that a large number of respondents to this article have pointed out that Canadians do have access to this app… in some cases 6 HOURS ago… but no acknowledgement, and definitely no update to the article…
iMessage is in fact multiple platform messaging and potentially reaches more people than Facebook does in that it works for everyone that has a phone, uses text messaging, or any kind of IM.
yeh yeh England UK i got it too without a Jailbreak
I’m in Australia. I created a US iTunes account in order to grab free apps, including Facebook Messenger. It’s running on my 4 without any problems whatsoever.
Sorry buddy, but I think some more research is in order. I think you’re confusing iMessages with SMSs or Texts. Yes, “iMessage” the app sends text messages, but tell me how a person with an iPod Touch can reach an Android user?
iMessages, in fact, is “multiple platform,” as long as that platform runs iOS. It’s likely that they’ll set it up to work through iChat (and hopefully not just for Lion), and that would be great, but that’s still not “more than Facebook”.
no -1 button on google either.
now that microsoft own skype, there’s a hidden video calling section within the fb messenger app
no it is you that is wrong pal. the facebook messenger app does send sms
where from usa store?
At the risk of elevating this to an argument, I need to ask you to re-read my message, friend. I didn’t speak of FB Messenger’s features or abilities. I’m not wrong.
As at least one person has mentioned in the comments, this has been available in Canada for some time. Not sure when it was initially released in the US, but I’ve had it for at least a few weeks. Fact checking. You should give it a try if you consider yourself a writer/contributor/journalist of any kind.
Really? This article was made 3 days ago and there still isn’t an update? C’mon, it’s not like this is some up and coming blog.
This app sucks makes you look like youré online 24/7 and not possible to remove even if you uninstalls the program.
DON´T INSTALL!!!!!!!
