Leander Kahney is the editor and publisher of Cult of Mac.
Leander is a longtime technology reporter and the author of six acclaimed books about Apple, including two New York Times bestsellers: Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple’s Greatest Products and Inside Steve’s Brain, a biography of Steve Jobs.
He’s also written a top-selling biography of Apple CEO Tim Cook and authored Cult of Mac and Cult of iPod, which both won prestigious design awards. Most recently, he was co-author of Cult of Mac, 2nd Edition.
Leander has been reporting about Apple and technology for nearly 30 years.
Before founding Cult of Mac as an independent publication, Leander was news editor at Wired.com, where he was responsible for the day-to-day running of the Wired.com website. He headed up a team of six section editors, a dozen reporters and a large pool of freelancers. Together the team produced a daily digest of stories about the impact of science and technology, and won several awards, including several Webby Awards, 2X Knight-Batten Awards for Innovation in Journalism and the 2010 MIN (Magazine Industry Newsletter) award for best blog, among others.
Before being promoted to news editor, Leander was Wired.com’s senior reporter, primarily covering Apple. During that time, Leander published a ton of scoops, including the first in-depth report about the development of the iPod. Leander attended almost every keynote speech and special product launch presented by Steve Jobs, including the historic launches of the iPhone and iPad. He also reported from almost every Macworld Expo in the late ’90s and early ‘2000s, including, sadly, the last shows in Boston, San Francisco and Tokyo. His reporting for Wired.com formed the basis of the first Cult of Mac book, and subsequently this website.
Before joining Wired, Leander was a senior reporter at the legendary MacWeek, the storied and long-running weekly that documented Apple and its community in the 1980s and ’90s.
Leander has written for Wired magazine (including the Issue 16.04 cover story about Steve Jobs’ leadership at Apple, entitled Evil/Genius), Scientific American, The Guardian, The Observer, The San Francisco Chronicle and many other publications.
Leander is an expert on:
Apple and Apple history
Steve Jobs, Jony Ive, Tim Cook and Apple leadership

So 3G is a 1€ upgrade now?
The second iPad in the pic is the first one, so it’s not related to the “iPad 2”.
I hope that’s not real. 400 Euros is about $670.
No, that is what the entry level iPad ALWAYS costs in Germany, so that doesn’t say anything about higher prices.

Oh those wacky Germans. I hope the pricing is right 499 is $677AUD
Read my post above, thats the normal price in Germany. It has always been 499 US Dollar, 499 Euro.
it says 1.2Ghz. I wonder if that’s a single-core or dual-core cpu…that’s assuming if this legit.
Used ones of an unreleased/unannounced product already available for sale?
FAKE!
Oopsie, scratch that comment. I was looking at the wrong entry. Still, I’m guessing FAKE.
3G iPad doesn’t sell here in Germany for €499. Only Wifi iPad does. Totally Photoshop fake.
Thunderbolt on iPad…
Ahh but you are not entirely correct!! this says 3G which in the US only the non 3G wifi 16gb goes for $499 soooooo if they are now selling the 3G version for $499 that means the non 3G will…..drum roll please…..cost less that $499. If this is real the competition just poo’ed themselves.
Probably a fake. The link to Amazon DE has a 12 digit ASIN number. Amazon ASIN only has 10 digits.
i highly doubt that Apple gives out the specs to anyone. This is their guess
Man, hours before an apple media event people really start to get psycho about any little bit info.
Like this… Today when I left the apple store I saw two white doves fly overhead. Could this be a sign that there will be a white iPhone and iPad released tomorrow?
thunderbolt? What’s this for on earth?
I don’t think that Apple will give out the specs to anyone before the launching, that just their guess!
I also read some pics about the iPad 2, here are some: http://www.ifunia.com/news/lea…
There are not any indication about the thunderbolt.
Bogus. Camera would be spelled with a kamera in Germany, 9,7″ would be spelled as 9,7 zoll, as the iPad below
Or you know… it could mean all iPads have 3G now. Jeez.
Photoshop fake? You can just open Safari Web Inspector and change the HTML code on-the-fly? :D
Easier, faster and cleaner ;)
