You’ll have to read through and decipher if this update applies to you but the Dev-Team has released Pwanage Tool 3.1 for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G.
Using Pwnage Tool 3.1 you can upgrade your iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch 2G to firmware 3.1 as long as your device is currently running a custom (jailbreak) 3.0 or 3.0.1 firmware.
Those of us who are not able to jailbreak because our phones shipped with 3.1 or hastily ran the update to 3.1 and can’t go back will have to wait a while longer for freedom.
On Monday, Cult of Mac release a handy and complete guide to jailbreaking your device, which can help you use this newly released Pwnage Tool to update your device.

Why do you have to wait? There is a jailbreak for iPhones running 3.1?
I upgraded mine to 3.1 accidentally when it was released, and successfully jailbroke it using PwnageTool last week.

Disappointing.
I’ve just got the Spotify app, so wanted to jailbreak so I could run that in the background. I am running 3.1 on 3GS though. Nevermind.

@Tony Ah yes, I forgot about that. I have an iPhone 3G.

I still don’t get why folks jailbreak? What’s the point?
Drupa, on October 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Drupa, I explained my reasoning. I want to run the Spotify app in the background, so I can listen to songs whilst using other apps. That is the sole reason for me.

Oh hurry up already with the 3.1 jailbreak. This is taking forever!

VJ – I have a 3G iPhone jailbreaked with PwnageTool 3.1 currently running iPhoneOS 3.1.. Works like a charm apart from a few bugs. No carrier, no data roaming.. I’m upgrading to 3.1.3 now so we’ll see what’s new.. But as far as using the iPhone it works perfectly.. Mine used to be an AT&T phone and it’s working with any other carrier using ultrasn0w.
