Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Misguided Mock-Up: Mickey Mouse Cheats On Minnie — With Mac Mighty Mouse

@Doberman Studio.

@Doberman Studio.

This an ad mock-up from Moscow agency Doberman Studio has me plenty confused.  Sure,  the sleek, round lines of the Mac Mighty Mouse might induce one to think it feminine.

Or is it some kind of commentary on gay marriage — i.e. did Mickey fall for the cartoon Mighty Mouse?

In the second version, cartoon mouse Jerry also falls prey to the seductive powers of the Mighty Mouse.

@Doberman Studio.

The site doesn’t specify whether this is an agency mock-up or a real ad running in Russia. The tag line below says “Walt Disney Records exclusive soundtracks Available on Apple Store,” which sounds more mock-up than real.

If you’ve ever tried to learn a romance language, you’re used to objects being assigned gender (in Italian, the mouse is called “il mouse” not to be confused with “la topa” a female mouse or slang for vagina) but still, this strikes me as a little weird.

    Seeing as Disney doesn’t own Tom and Jerry, I say it’s a mock up.

    Those are some rather random ‘ads’ — no call to action and no clear proposition.

    I’d say they’re cutesy mock-ups, also seeing as Tom and Jerry are (now) owned by Time-Warner, originally created by Hannah-Barbera for MGM.

    Shane, JW — good calls, you’re right.

    WTF.

    Is this really News, What’s the purpose of this article…

    aaahhh; I Get it, One pointless article calling out another pointless meaningless article…

    Whatever happened to Real News and Journalism…

    Oh, Bloggers fall into the same circle of paparazzi and Shark bait Bottom feeding reporting without integrity of really giving some News that is considered Useful.

    Well, You may not care, But having a site that tries to post some credible information with meaning is needed these days to offset all the FUD being posted by non caring bloggers.

    Cult of Mac has fallen into the Bottom Feeders Category of posting F.U.D, Not with this Garbage but with the Past Months Post’s, from 96% of it’s “so called reporting”.

    No More Clicks for this site, One Less Bookmark.

    I am aware that you will not care and some “Uneducated Zombi” will post back in a “Primitive Beating on chest Alpha Dog Defending Demeanor” justifying this someway.

    The problem is, It is harder to find good bloggers that don’t post Nonsense.

    And just because some bureaucrat Web Owner say’s each Blogger needs, and is required to post so many Blogs per Week, One needs to ask what is more important, The number of post per week to meet a quota, or the integrity in reporting the story, and such content to be posted as newsworthy and beneficial to the end reader.

    Cult of mac has slipped into the realms of Cult of Crap.

    Really I couldn’t think of a more dignified and eloquent way of wording how as a longtime reader of this site, on how disappointed I am at it’s reporting and how it has slipped into something that was enjoyable to read daily, to wanting to forget it was ever a part of my daily life “Just Like My Ex Wife”.

    “Good Night And Good Luck”

    @Scott B
    Go away or shut the hell up already. No one gives a damn about your feelings towards a website. Really. Go pout somewhere else for fuck’s sake. =\

    Russian is a Slavic language, btw, although it also has gender nouns as do many Germanic languages (which is god awful to learn).

    Also, Apple’s mouse sucks. Really bad. How anybody could be even marginally fond of that thing just baffles me. 0_o

    @Scott B: I visit Cult of Mac as it features posts about all things Apple and is not a ’serious’ tech site. It’s light hearted and is an amalgamation of news, specultation, opinions and randomness. Aren’t all blogs?

    I found the above article interesting and amusing, and I appreciate Nicole sharing something she’d found that was Mac related.
