Bose Produces $600 SoundDock

At what point does a dock become something more than a simple way shuttle tunes or recharge? If you’re Bose, the speaker people, you attach a stereo and a $600 price tag. The SoundDock 10 weighs in at 19 pounds and 10-inches.

“Bose SoundDock 10 sits a few notches above any of its stablemates,” according to Gizmodo. Although wireless, you’ll want to find a permanent spot for the SoundDock. A Bose engineer hinted at its size, describing the unit as “transportable,” as in a Chihuahua is portable; a St. Bernard is transportable.

Despite its heft, the SoundDock’s lineage is the tiny Wave radio. The new unit employs “Twiddlers” to combine tweeters and deeper tones.

The SoundDock is available Sept 21.

now the real question is will it charge my iphone because my old sounddock is awesome but doesn’t charge my iphone so i’ve been considering upgrading

Generation 2 onwards will charge an iPhone / iPod touch.
I think it’s only the very first version that won’t.
So this one should be great… the portability aspect is a bit of a waste IMHO.
Mine has been moved once – from work to next to my bed.
It’s not the sort of thing I’d take to the beach

I’m a little troubled that you have a post on Bose’s new dock but the Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2 has been completely overlooked. It is a fantastic HD Radio and Dock with iTunes tagging(the first to have i-Tunes tagging). It carries a lower price tag than the Bose, and I’m sure can compete on sound quality. I’ve had mine for over a year with no problems. Polk as even provided a DIY firmware update to add increase reception and additional functionality at no cost. It deserves at least as much air time as a new Bose product.

I still have my 1st gen Bose Sound Docks in two rooms, and see no need to replace them. They still absolutely do the trick.

I had a chance to listen to the sound dock 10 and it is really impressive.
