It’s not new that international data plans are pecuniary disembowleings, so it’s natural that AT&T’s official pricing for the iPad would be for the sadomasochistic only. Expect to spend as much as $200 a month for a slice of bandwidth exceeded by many App Store video games, or just a couple of downloaded iTunes albums.
The price plans available are:
• $24.99/month: 20 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 20 MB of usage within more than 90 countries
• $59.99/month: 50 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 50 MB of usage within more than 90 countries
• $119.99/month: 100 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 100 MB of usage within more than 90 countries
• $199.99/month: 200 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 200 MB of usage within more than 90 countries
What’s most absurd is that since the iPad is sold unlocked, you should be able to just travel abroad, pick up a 3G micro SIM from a local carrier and use their iPad 3G at local rates without a contract. Who is AT&T trying to fool here?
