Apple’s iPhone PR Team Invites British Journalists to Join the WWDC Party

Apple-WWDC-2011

While we’re certain Apple isn’t struggling to fill seats at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, its iPhone public relations team are reportedly contacting British journalists and inviting them to the attend the party.

According to a source speaking to U.K. blog Electricpig, the public relations team at Apple that handles everything iPhone has been approaching British journalists with major publications and requesting the pleasure of their company in at WWDC in San Francisco from June 6th.

While recent speculation would have you believe a new iPhone is just a dream until at least September, and that the event is purely iOS and Mac OS X focused, Electricpig believes there may be some new hardware after all:

The obvious conclusion would be that Apple is announcing a new iPhone. Or rather, an updated model. The iPhone 4S is slated as a stop-gap before the appearance of a true, ‘&%!*, they’ve done it again!’ game-changer next year.

Despite this, I maintain a new iPhone release before September is unlikely, even if the fifth-generation device is only a ‘minor’ improvement on the iPhone 4. Firstly, Apple has announced this year’s WWDC as “a preview of the future of iOS and Mac OS X,” which seems to suggest the event will be focused on software this year.

Furthermore, reports just last month claimed that production of the next iPhone hasn’t even begun yet, and to start the process just a month before the device is set to launch seems highly unlikely.

Of course, Apple has a great knack of keeping secrets, and assuming everyone at the company – and those in the supply chain – have been keeping quiet, it’s possible there may already be an iPhone 5 polished and packed up waiting for its summer release.

But more importantly than the next iPhone – I’m a British journalist – where’s my damn invite?
