Apple’s website already has a new executive profiles page emphasizing Tim Cook as CEO . I guess it should come as no surprise. Steve Jobs has always been disciplined and unsentimental.
Below, Jobs is listed as Chairman of the board. Let’s hope it stays that way for some time.
Leander Kahney is the editor and publisher of Cult of Mac.
Leander is a longtime technology reporter and the author of six acclaimed books about Apple, including two New York Times bestsellers: Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple’s Greatest Products and Inside Steve’s Brain, a biography of Steve Jobs.
He’s also written a top-selling biography of Apple CEO Tim Cook and authored Cult of Mac and Cult of iPod, which both won prestigious design awards. Most recently, he was co-author of Cult of Mac, 2nd Edition.
Leander has been reporting about Apple and technology for nearly 30 years.
Before founding Cult of Mac as an independent publication, Leander was news editor at Wired.com, where he was responsible for the day-to-day running of the Wired.com website. He headed up a team of six section editors, a dozen reporters and a large pool of freelancers. Together the team produced a daily digest of stories about the impact of science and technology, and won several awards, including several Webby Awards, 2X Knight-Batten Awards for Innovation in Journalism and the 2010 MIN (Magazine Industry Newsletter) award for best blog, among others.
Before being promoted to news editor, Leander was Wired.com’s senior reporter, primarily covering Apple. During that time, Leander published a ton of scoops, including the first in-depth report about the development of the iPod. Leander attended almost every keynote speech and special product launch presented by Steve Jobs, including the historic launches of the iPhone and iPad. He also reported from almost every Macworld Expo in the late ’90s and early ‘2000s, including, sadly, the last shows in Boston, San Francisco and Tokyo. His reporting for Wired.com formed the basis of the first Cult of Mac book, and subsequently this website.
Before joining Wired, Leander was a senior reporter at the legendary MacWeek, the storied and long-running weekly that documented Apple and its community in the 1980s and ’90s.
Leander has written for Wired magazine (including the Issue 16.04 cover story about Steve Jobs’ leadership at Apple, entitled Evil/Genius), Scientific American, The Guardian, The Observer, The San Francisco Chronicle and many other publications.
Leander is an expert on:
Apple and Apple history
Steve Jobs, Jony Ive, Tim Cook and Apple leadership
Apple community
iPhone and iOS
iPad and iPadOS
Mac and macOS
Apple Watch and watchOS
Apple TV and tvOS
AirPods
Leander has a postgrad diploma in artificial intelligence from the University of Aberdeen, and a BSc (Hons) in experimental psychology from the University of Sussex.
He has a diploma in journalism from the UK’s National Council for the Training of Journalists.
Leander lives in San Francisco, California, and is married with four children. He’s an avid biker and has ridden in many long-distance bike events, including California’s legendary Death Ride.

already? You mean “finally” It wasn’t updated until about an hour ago.
Jony Ives looks like he wants to beat the living sh!T outta all the shirt-collar wearing folk on the page. You show’em Ives. You show’em.
Bill Campbell needs to go. Intuit is shit.
Jonathan Ive didn’t get the memo that it was class picture day. Or he didn’t care because he knew his mom was just purchasing a single sheet with some wallets and a 4″x6″.
Too bad AlGore isn’t the one leaving. What a waste of space.
Where are the women?
One of the great things about Apple is the diversity within the company. I see white men with grey hair, light grey hair, hardly any grey hair… brings a tear to my eye, it really does.
I too was struck by the male-ness and white-ness of that executive tree. Interesting.
Didn’t Ron Johnson leave Apple?
In the kitchen.
Looks like someone stole Ive’s lunch money.
And I don’t know why, but Mansfield reminds me of the late great Chris Farley.
Will this update break my jailbreak?
I purchased the Mac book Pro 17 inch model from best buy in August of 2011. The computer had lion pre-installed in it. For about two weeks I enjoyed the computer. At that point Apple put out an update to improve wifi when using the computer. I downloaded the update and from that time on my computer has been unable to load many internet pages, unable to log onto face book, my yahoo mail, my yahoo messenger, msn messenger, itunes will not load, ichat will not work, the mac store will not work.
I immediately called Apple Care at which point they had me take Lion off the computer and reinstall in. This did not help at all. For two weeks after that and many many hours on the phone trying different things they were not able to help. I was told to bring it to the apple store. I brought it to the apple store and was told there was nothing they could do and I could return the computer to Best Buy or wait for the next update. In stating this the tech was very arrogant. I called Apple Care again and they tried several other things and still no fix. At this point the techs at Apple Care started to get rude. I asked several techs to return my money and take the computer back. I was told since I did not purchase the product from Apple directly and instead purchased it from Best Buy it was out of their hands. I brought the computer to Best Buy and they refused to return my money as it is after the two week return policy. They offered to take the update out of the computer. I accepted their offer. I received the computer back today and it is not any better then it was before removal of the last update.
I started writing reviews of the computer on several websites and online apple retailers and was contacted by Ryan a customer rep at apple who informed me that Apple would now return my money. I asked him if this meant the full purchase price along with the $500 insurance policy bought at best Buy and he said no just the purchase price. He asked me for a copy of the receipt of the purchase price from best Buy. I faxed it to him and was told its not clear and do it again. I ran back to the store and faxed it a second time. Again Ryan stated he could not read the fax. I know need to find a place to scan the receipt and email him or overnight it. Once received I was told it could take up to six weeks to return my purchase price. When asked about compensating me for the purchase price of Best Buy’s insurance, time taken off of work to run to the Apple store, Best Buy, spend hours and hours on the phone and I was told I wasn’t going to be compensated for this and be happy I was getting anything back. Today I purchased a jump drive, had a store scan the receipt into it, returned home, emailed it to ryan and was told it isn’t good enough he now wants an itimized bill from BestBuy. I informed him this was Best Buy’s bill and their is nothing I could do.
I was told apple computers are the best and their customer care was in a league of its own. I am so disappointed in the computer, customer service, and their executives including CEO TOM COOK who has not responded to one of my several emails. I am feeling played with and harrased by apple and their executives.
