Widgets in iOS 5 are like Widgets in OS X — lightweight apps that live on the desktop, or in this case, the iOS Home Screen. Above is the Weather widget, and below an iTunes Widget.

To creat a new Widget on the desktop, drag the app’s icon to the Home Screen. A dialog box pops up…
… asking if you want to create a Shortcut or a Widget.
