According to the always reliable Digitimes, Apple is preparing three versions of the iPad 2 for 2011… but if you think they mean 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, think again. Digitimes thinks it means WiFi, 3G.. and a Verizon iPad.
According to Verizon’s sources, Apple’s looking to produce up to 530,000 iPad 2s in January that will be comprised of WiFi, UMTS/HSPA (re: AT&T) and CDMA (re: Verizon) units in a 3:4:3 split.
We’re pretty skeptical. CDMA is a pretty small market globally, and the idea that Apple would be dedicating 30% of future iPad production to a CDMA model when CDMA doesn’t even make up 30% of all mobile broadband users globally is a little rich.
But Digitimes’ simultaneous scoop that Apple’s working on improving the iPad 2’s anti-smudge and anti-reflective treatments? Pure gold!
