If you bought your Mac Pro from between August 2006 and January 2008 and if you’ve noticed your video acting wonky, good news: Apple has heard your plaintive cries and posted a support document acknowledging an issue with that computer’s ATI X1900 XT graphics card.

Apparently, the X1900 XT’s in that model of Mac Pro was prone to failure, with the most prevalent symptom being distorted video. If you’ve noticed such a problem, Apple is now allowing you to trade in your video card just by yanking it out of the case and bringing it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Retail Store location.

All of the affected cards have V6Z in the last part of their serial number, so it should be pretty easy to tell if you’re affected. The replacement program will cover afflicted Mac Pro owners either three years from the original date of purchase or until January 31st, 2011… whichever one is longer.
