AT&T is still offering unlimited data plans for the iPad, weeks after the company discontinued its all-you-can-eat offerings, reader Vincent Fox reports.

AT&T discontinued its $29.99 unlimited data plan on June 7, instead offering customers 2GB per month for $25. Customers who signed up for unlimited plans before the June 7 deadline get to keep them.

However, Vincent signed up for his plan this weekend. Vincent writes:

“Today on my iPad 3G, I activated 3G for the first time. The “unlimited” option is still available! This was at 11:10 PST on June 19th 2010, long after the supposed expiration of this option. I purchase my iPad a couple of weeks after launch. Perhaps the older units are still allowed this choice? I was billed $29.99 and it clearly shows I am now on the unlimited plan. Perhaps others can take advantage
of this as well.

Hi guys. It happened to me the same thing I wanted to test if my data plan with the micro sim could be
used in my iphone with an adapter, for this reason try to buy a plan when I found the IPAD
unlimited plan option and obviously buy it, as I have a jailbreak I can share my IPAD
the internet, I am happy ……
I select the data plan yesterday …… June 21

Yep I did too around June 20th

I suspect that there’s something in the software that allowing that option to appear and they haven’t turned it off. Probably adjusted it for new units built after the cut off but with tens of tens still in the supply chain it is working. Which is how they are dealing with ‘I reserved one but it hasn’t come in yet’ issues.
which is all good since as I understand it, you just need to buy the plan once and even if you cancel, you still have the option to pick it up again.

I had this on a 3G iPad I bought this past weekend at the Apple Store. Gladly grabbed it.

“as I understand it, you just need to buy the plan once and even if you cancel, you still have the option to pick it up again.”

er….definitely, no, that’s a negative. that’s what a lot of the fuss was about.
start and stop of the unlimited plan is no more.

Bought the iPad before the June 7 deadline in order to get unlimited 3g. Ipad arrived today. Unlimited not available. AT&T not honoring the promise Apple made. Big problem. I have printout of Apple’s promise, but the option isn’t available.
