Bid goodbye to your free time because Microsoft just brought Solitaire, arguably its greatest creation, to Android and iOS.
The game has been a staple of the Windows operating system for 25 years and boasts 119 million players on Windows 8 and Windows 10 alone. Now it’s jumping to third-party platforms for the first time ever.
Although Microsoft didn’t create Solitaire the game, its own version is easily the most popular. Introduced with Windows 3.0 in 1990, Microsoft intended it “to soothe people intimidated by the operating system” and its graphical user interface.
[contextly_auto_sidebar] The game has been available on Windows ever since, but Microsoft kept it to itself… until now. Microsoft Solitaire Collection today makes its debut on Android and iOS, and it includes the Klondike, FreeCell, Pyramid, Spider and Tripeaks game modes.
Players will have daily challenges to complete, while Xbox Live integration will bring the ability to compete against friends and chase after achievements. The game is free to download, but a $1.99 in-app purchase gets you the “Premium Edition” which doubles the coin rewards you get for completing those challenges and removes the ads.

Ouch! Microsoft’s greatest creation? That’s some harsh words for the company, especially because Microsoft’s version of Solitaire pales in comparison to Solitaire Forever (available in the App Store). There’s also a free Klondike Forever available, which gives you the basic Klondike version of solitaire that’s much more visually appealing and better designed than Microsoft’s bare bones solitaire game.
