Ford today confirmed plans to put CarPlay and Android Auto into all of its 2017 cars, SUVs, electric vehicles, and light trucks. The platforms will become part of the company’s own Sync 3 system, allowing drivers to connect their iPhone or Android device.

Take off has been slow, but CarPlay and Android Auto are now receiving strong support from big car makers. Kia offered up free upgrades for many of its latest vehicles earlier this month, while Hyundai rolled out an update that added the tech back in May.

“We developed one platform – SYNC 3 – and have been able to quickly offer the technology across our lineup,” said Ford’s Chuck Gray. “Customers considering a new vehicle can now choose any 2017 model year Ford car, SUV, light truck, or electrified vehicle with SYNC 3 and be able to access their favorite apps.”

Some of Ford’s more popular vehicles are already available in 2017 models, including the Escape, Explorer, Fusion, and Mustang. Other models like the F-150, Focus, Edge, and all-new Super Duty will be available in 2017 models later this year.

Sync 3 doesn’t just deliver better software, but new hardware that makes the in-car entertainment experience more intuitive and easier to use. Its voice recognition technology is also more conversational, making hands-free control even greater.

CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 and later models, while Android Auto is available with devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop and later.
