Caseology is a fairly new smartphone case brand and the company was kind enough to send Cult of Mac four different cases from its iPhone 6s lineup to test out. With the vast majority of Caseology cases on Amazon receiving 4-star and 4 and a half-star reviews, I was eager to see if they lived up to the hype.

I got to use a navy blue and rose gold Savoy series case, navy blue and gold Wavelength series case, the silver and black Vault series case and the clear and rose gold Skyfall series case. In short, all of them ended up being four of my favorite cases to ever grace my iPhone.

Savoy

Let’s start with the first on the list and my absolute favorite. The navy blue and rose gold Savoy case is the one I’ve had on for over a week now and I’ve gotten numerous compliments on it. The chrome-esque rose gold accents on the top and bottom paired with the matte navy blue spanning most of the case just screams elegance. The two slide on and click together to turn my iPhone into a fashion item.

The case is made out of polycarbonate, but the inside has a soft layer to prevent scratches on the phone. Due to it being made mostly out of polycarbonate, it’s not the most protective of the bunch, but the build quality feels solid. the buttons on the left and right side are also left totally exposed, but the lip around it should protect them from falls. I’m not that clumsy with my iPhone, so Savoy strikes a perfect balance between being lightweight, good-looking and protective.

Wavelength

The Wavelength case was the one I initially thought I’d like the most. Like the Savoy case, it’s also navy blue but features regular gold accents instead. The navy blue has an appropriate wavelength design to it that somehow makes the case feel more masculine. It’s also a two-parter with the navy blue (or whatever color you choose) being of TPU material and the gold wraparound band of polycarbonate.

The TPU material should offer some shock protection that the all-polycarbonate Savoy series can’t provide. I also love the color combinations: navy blue and gold to perfectly match the Apple Watch model, and I imagine plenty of Coachella attendees rocking the coral pink and gold.

Vault

By the name, you can already tell that the Vault is the most protective Caseology case out of the four. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nowhere near at the same level as an Otterbox Defender or Griffin Survivor, but it seems sturdy enough to handle some minor falls. The thick, flexible inner TPU should absorb shock and the thick polycarbonate surrounding it should aid in that while keeping the case firm.

The etched pattern across the back of the case makes the Vault very easy to grip, which should prevent drops in the first place. Protection and style often don’t go hand in hand, and as such, this case is my least favorite solely in terms of appearance but it’s not ugly by any means. It’s a great case for the slippery winter months or just to have on hand for any rigorous activities, if you’re that kind of person.

Skyfall

Finally, James Bond’s favorite case happens to be my least favorite overall. The clear all-polycarbonate Skyfall case comes with a colorful band that wraps around it for style. That band happens to be rose gold for me. I’ve never been a fan of clear cases, but I see the appeal for people who want to preserve the look of the iPhone. Skyfall does a good job of that, especially if you match the band color to your iPhone color. Like all other cases except Savoy, this one has faux buttons to protect the real ones on your device.

Still, all polycarbonate cases don’t offer very much drop protection. Plus, since clear ones can’t have a soft inner layer, it leaves your iPhone more prone to scratching while inside. If you care more about style than protection, Skyfall is an adequate choice.

The verdict

All of these Caseology cases normally retail for around $29.99 each ($34.99 for Savoy) but as part of a Black Friday sale you can get them from $12.99 to $15.99 each. I came out feeling very impressed by all of the cases. Splurge on the Savoy series if you can, but they all give off a premium feel. I doubt anyone would be disappointed picking any of them.
