The appropriately named Kanga Hoodie drops the recent trend of fitting as many little pockets as we can into everything in favor of one huge pocket that goes all the way around your body.

The project is looking for some cash from crowdfunding site Kickstarter to finish production, and it’s looking to do some good in the process.

It all sounds a little weird when you just describe it, but if you watch the Kanga Hoodie‘s pitch video below, you’ll realize that it also looks a little weird in action.

Instead of one zipper that goes up the front, Kanga has two on the left side: One closes the jacket to pull off a stylish wraparound look, and the other lets you into your front storage area. Another zipper on the right lets you stash things in the back of the hoodie without having to push them all the way around from the front, but it’s all the same space.

It more or less turns your outerwear into a backpack you can’t remove, and it also makes it really difficult for people to punch you in the stomach; they’ll hit your history textbook or MacBook instead, and that would probably hurt a lot.

Still, I’ve tried the “tons of pockets” route, and I think the Kanga Hoodie may be on to something. I’ve had bags with specialized pockets I felt obligated to use, and then I couldn’t remember where anything was. This method narrows your options of where to look down to the one massive pouch you’re wearing around your torso, and it may not be ideal for smaller stuff like keys or flash drives, but it would be a solid choice for a computer and/or tablet, provided you don’t put anything too bulky in the back if you plan on sitting.

The Kanga will retail for $129, but you can get a deal with a pledge on Kickstarter. And a $99 pledge not only snags you a hoodie, but the company will donate a second unit to the Nashville Rescue Misson for the cold winter months ahead.

KickShark, the maker of the Kanga Hoodie, is looking for $12,000 to finish production. As of this writing, it has raised $424 with 29 days to go.
