Although the microblogging service pays a lot of attention to its iOS client, even rolling out a new feature called Moments last week, Twitter has traditionally ignored its OS X client. But it’s about to get a much needed update, including a dark mode custom tailored for OS X El Capitan.

The announcement of the new Twitter client was made at Twitter Flight, Twitter’s annual developer conference. New features will include support for Moment, in-line Vine and video playback, group direct messages, photo in direct messages, in-line replies, and highlights in the notification center.

If you’re sick of Twitter hurting your eyes in dark rooms, Vine cofounder Rus Yusupov showed off Twitter working in El Capitan’s dark mode.

These are all much overdue updates, but sadly, they won’t be coming for some months. The truth is, Twitter doesn’t really care about its desktop client: it would much rather you use the web version, or the iOS apps. But beggars can’t be choosers.
