The ChargeStand is a device with a static name, one that suggests its place is on a desk or end table. But the combination charging dock and portable battery is only meant to rest when you do.

It elegantly holds your smartphone in portrait or landscape position as it charges, but as your day begins, it folds up, fits neatly in a pocket or bag and, with a 3000 mAH battery, can lend an ample supply of juice to a battery near empty.

The tech accessories company Ventev Mobile is rolling out the ChargeStand on Indiegogo, where it seeks to raise $20,000 for production that would begin early next year. There are a number of small funding options but a ChargeStand is available during the early days of the campaign for $59.

Ventev is among a slew of companies trying to bring charging solutions to smartphone users who sometimes find themselves with a dead battery and no outlet in sight. Several manufacturers in the last year have introduced portable power banks and battery cases and Ventev is trying to appear unique with multi-functionality and portability.

The light gray ChargeStand opens like a small clam when charging or resting your phone. When plugged into an outlet for the evening, it will first charge and sync the phone before recharging the ChargeStand battery, which can provide one to two full charges (consider an iPhone 6 is 1810 mAH, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 2800 mAH).

The ChargeStand has a braided, tangle-free cord, has over-charge, temperature and short circuit protection and is MFi certified for Apple devices.
