Apple announced that it’s dropping the price on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s this morning, but what it didn’t tell fans is that if you want a gold iPhone, the only way to get one is to upgrade to the newest model.
Apple removed the option to purchase the gold finish on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 from its website today. Both devices have come in gold since they were introduced, but now it looks like Apple wants to force anyone who wants their iPhone to shine like gold to upgrade to the latest and greatest model.
Here’s the updated list of iPhone models and their color options:

Even thought my house is full of Apple devices (4 iphones, 3 iPads, MBRr, apple TV) I have no illusion as to Apple’s greed. Example 16 GB iPhone. Really? You are going to shoot 4K video on a device with usable internal memory of only about 10 GB? Memory upgrade from 16 GB to 32 GB would cost Apple only a few bucks. Yet they charge $100 for it.
the people who are going to shoot lots of 4K video probably won’t be getting a 16GB iphone. i dare say they’re for users looking for a bit less from their phone… they’ll chooser a lesser quality. a lot of people don’t need 16GB on their phones. i wouldn’t, if i didn’t have 3000 songs on there
Exactly. So users can purchase the 64GB instead of the 32GB model they otherwise would have chosen since 16GB isn’t enough.
Cheapo’s gonna cheap. Anyone else is presented with the “quadruple storage for $100” decision and will. If they started at 32GB, everyone would get it. Drives revenue, inflates stock price, you get your precious sweatshop-made smartphone, everyone wins.
