Incase’s Perforated Snap iPhone Case Might Be The Lightest Around [Review]

As noted in my last review, I’m not a big fan of iPhone cases (or any sort of cases, really. Or even clothes — when I was a kid, I ran around nak…uh, but back to the case). When I saw Incase’s Perforated Snap Case, and heard it was one of the lightest and leanest iPhone cases, I expected to find a case I would finally keep permanently attached to my 3GS. Well, not quite.

Model: Incase Perforated Snap Case for iPhone 3G and 3GS
Company: Incase
Compatability: All iPhone versions
List Price: $29.99

It’s light — silly light. Its perforated, thin shell snaps smartly onto the iPhone, and access to the screen, top and bottom of the phone is unobstructed; access to the volume rocker, however, is a bit tricky, and trying to flick the mute switch is an exercise in frustration.

It isn’t the most attractive case on the market either. The holes make it lighter, but lend it a kind of wicker-basket styling, a look that doesn’t really appeal to me (but may to others).

On the plus side, Incase thoughtfully includes an “S” stand in the box: a reversible stand that can support the iPhone at two different viewing angles. I found the stand pretty useful for things like propping the iPhone up when using a clock app like Alarm Clock or the native timer/stopwatch functions.

At $30, this spartan, ultralight case is a bit steep and really only offers protection against scratches and the most minor of bumps, but is probably the right bit of kit for adherents to the school of minimalism.

Note: The box says the case will only fit the 3G/3GS, but it seemed to fit fine on my Original. Also available in black.
