The first trailer for Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine, the controversial documentary by Sir Alex Gibney, debuted online today, giving us our first extended glimpse at a film that supposedly pulls no punches when it comes to the late Apple CEO’s life and legacy.

You can watch the first trailer for the film, which Gibney described as an “impressionistic” depiction of Jobs, below.

Gibney’s doc debuted at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this year, with Variety describing it as “searching and scorching, and more than willing to speak ill of the dead.”

The director caused controversy with a Scientology documentary he released earlier this year for HBO, and his portrayal of Jobs has been divisive among the Apple community. Apple VP Eddy Cue blasted the film, calling it a “mean-spirited view of my friend,” after watching it at SXSW.

Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine opens in select theaters Sept. 4. Roughly a month later we’ll be hit with another Steve Jobs film — the highly anticipated biopic written by Aaron Sorkin, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels.

I have a bad feeling about this. I think the director’s take is that Apple is the technological equivalent to Scientology. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not optimistic.

Is there away to find out what theaters will be showing this because I’m very curious about seeing this.

Seems to be just another “Steve Jobs was a mean prick but he made billions” movie.
