Apple is known for placing its fair share of Easter eggs into iOS and OS X, but this is the coolest one we’ve seen in a while.
You know the new Voice Memos icon Apple introduced in iOS 7 Beta 2? It turns out the icon is designed after the waveform representation of someone saying “Apple.”
The discovery was made by Twitter’s Mike Rundle, creator of the photography app Filters for iPhone:
If you record yourself saying "Apple", the waveform is the Voice Memos icon. pic.twitter.com/oSvzE9UA1H

Try it yourself. It’s true. And no one noticed it for almost two years. Makes you wonder what other Apple Easter eggs could still be waiting to be discovered, doesn’t it? Do you think any are buried in the Apple Watch?

I knew this since day one of the new icon. Meh.
Yeah you know the Memos icon but you dind’t know where the idea came from right? the bars uhh.
Yes, I knew it said Apple.
Did you also know that it was made from a recording of Steve Jobs saying “Apple?”
I go ‘meh’ for a different reason. Easter eggs, for me, are never exciting nor do I actively pursue them. While this is kind of interesting, I’d even hardly call it an Easter egg.
I knew this the day before you found out. This makes me super special.
Wasn’t this posted here like a year ago?
Scraping the barrel on this one.
Voice memos is a great app, but it is not on iPads :(
yes doesn’t make any sense that iPads don’t have calculator, voice memos, stock and weather apps by default
Agreed. I bought a calculator app for that very purpose and use it all the time!
An Easter egg is hidden *functionality*! In no way, shape, or form is the origin of an icon an Easter egg.
Easter Egg could be any hidden thing in plain sight.
You guys must pronounce apple in a radically different way. Mine doesn’t even come close.
I tried it too…. my waveform didn’t look anything like the icon.
There are a ton of Apple-related things in the emoji too. Johnny Appleseed shows up quite a bit. The “Crazy Ones” is there as well. Just need to look.
try this: add “.vegas” to the end of any .com url (like blahblah.com.vegas)
I get the same waveform when I say “taco” “hello” “barfo” “rolro”
even “Jony”
You iphone guys are sad.
Do you know what a logo is? “Say “Apple” into Voice Memos and you get its logo”. No you don’t that would be the Apple logo. What you get is the Voice Memo app icon.
Do you know what an easter egg is? This isn’t one, it’s just the origin story of the icon design, like when the time and date icons were static there was reason behind them too.
Snooze….
