Apple is known for placing its fair share of Easter eggs into iOS and OS X, but this is the coolest one we’ve seen in a while.

You know the new Voice Memos icon Apple introduced in iOS 7 Beta 2? It turns out the icon is designed after the waveform representation of someone saying “Apple.”

The discovery was made by Twitter’s Mike Rundle, creator of the photography app Filters for iPhone:

Try it yourself. It’s true. And no one noticed it for almost two years. Makes you wonder what other Apple Easter eggs could still be waiting to be discovered, doesn’t it? Do you think any are buried in the Apple Watch?

An Easter egg is hidden *functionality*! In no way, shape, or form is the origin of an icon an Easter egg.

You guys must pronounce apple in a radically different way. Mine doesn’t even come close.

There are a ton of Apple-related things in the emoji too. Johnny Appleseed shows up quite a bit. The “Crazy Ones” is there as well. Just need to look.

Do you know what a logo is? “Say “Apple” into Voice Memos and you get its logo”. No you don’t that would be the Apple logo. What you get is the Voice Memo app icon.

Do you know what an easter egg is? This isn’t one, it’s just the origin story of the icon design, like when the time and date icons were static there was reason behind them too.
