Apple is starting to toss Apple Watches at celebrities like the wearables are Viagra at the Playboy Mansion. Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld just flashed his custom gold link bracelet on Instagram, and now Sam Smith is showing off his new timepiece — which was hand-delivered by Jony Ive himself.

The Grammy-winning singer met up with Apple’s design chief yesterday and posted a picture on Instagram of what looks to be a stainless steel or gold Apple Watch with a green Sport band. Smith was stoked to meet Ive, even though he still doesn’t know the proper name for Apple Watch.

“I’m actually the happiest boy in the world right now,” said Smith on Instagram. “Just met Sir Jonathan Ive and he is the sweetest man in the world. He’s given me the new Iwatch!! It’s SO SICK!! Feels like Christmas.”

Smith joins the likes of Pharrell, Katy Perry and Drake as some of the first pop stars seen wearing the Apple Watch Edition ahead of its April 24 release.

What is exactly custom about it? You mean they changed the engraving from “Apple Watch” to “iWatch”?

It looks like one cannot buy a stainless steel watch case with a green band. The green band is only an option for the base aluminum model, so I guess that would make it a custom configuration.

but you can buy the bands separately
i guess its custom because he got that as a default combo, not just an add-on band

If they built a green band with a gold clasp pin to match the Edition Watch that would be custom. Maybe the digital crown has a green cap as well…

I still hate the fact that Tim’s Apple is slowly ditching the famous “i”. That’s like deleting Steve Jobs’s legacy.

Apple is giving these watches away like candy. How about trying to deliver watches to the people that actually payed for them first!

Ah Apple, stop sucking the dick of the rich and famous.

Apple used to be the company that gave nothing free to anyone, especially celebrities, and was loath to do celebrity endorsements. Prior to Steve’s passing the only real celebrity “endorsement” I can think of is the U2 edition iPod. Now, they’re giving away product left and right to any celebrity who’ll endorse them. There’s nothing inherently wrong with giving products to celebrities who then function as a bit of inexpensive advertising, but it just seems like a fundamental shift for Apple as a company, indicative of a larger worry.

And yet, even though I stayed up to order my watch I have to wait 2 months to get it. It sucks not to be as important to Apple as all the beautiful people who get theirs handed to them for free.

Have been a fan of Apple products for a long, long time, but I just don’t see the hype about this watch. Tim Cook said in an interview that the same was said for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, but I saw purpose in all those products. I see no purpose in this one. It’s not even a smart watch! You have to have a phone with you in order for it to do anything “smart”. So now I have to carry two products instead of one? This does not make my life easier or better in any way. And counting steps with a little different algorithm is not innovative, Mr. Cook. Neither is the ability to change straps. Now they are giving away these expensive toys to celebrities while delaying the existing orders from customers. I understand how celebrities can help their marketing of the product, but the old Apple would have put the customer first. Really disappointed in the new Apple. Innovation is being replaced by a narrow-minded focus on aesthetics, purpose is being set aside for expensive marketing, and the customer’s needs/wants is being usurped by Apple’s needs/wants. Like all great empires, this one, too, shall fall, and I believe we are witnessing the beginnings of its decline.
