We still haven’t gotten a glimpse of Apple’s long-rumored 12-inch iPad Pro, but a new set of images of an alleged iPad Pro dummy unit show that the mythical giant tablet might actually be real.
Images of an alleged iPad Pro case posted to Weibo today could potentially reveal some of the new features Apple has in store for it’s enterprise-focused tablet, including a USB-C port in a very unexpected place.
Take a peek:
This isn’t the first time an alleged iPad Pro case has leaked, however this shell looks different from the last leak that showed an iPad Pro with speaker grills above the camera and power switch.
The latest pictures posted on Weibo appear to show a Lightning or USB-C connector on the left side of the device, along with five speaker holes next to the microphone port.
Apple isn’t expected to unveil the next generation of iPads until the fall. Other features for the iPad Pro could include an A8X or A9 processor, a higher-resolution display, and a maybe even a fancy stylus.

“iPad Pro could prove that size mattesr.”
If Apple truly wants to label this as a “Pro” product then it’d better run OS X
Yep … if it is iOS … it is likely to be a huge failure to meet “pro” needs …
Why not applicable? What makes you think OS X is not capable of being used on a touch screen? Many desktop OS versions have been run on touch screen displays for decades. Including OS X.
In fact, how would it be so different from the new Macbook and using a touch pad? The new MB could easily fit into a tablet form factor (sans a physical keyboard) offering full OS X capabilities. Don’t be afraid to embrace a new designs.
iOs is too limited for heavy lifting … high volume RAW image handling or HD video editing on location. A slightly larger tablet capable of running full Lightroom and Final Cut Pro X would be a boon for many working pros that need to meet deadlines and also must conserve weight and space.
If the Surface 3 can do this … why not an iPad Pro? If Apple is incapable of accomplishing this, why bother? A larger iPad with the same capabilities really doesn’t bring anything new t the table … except a higher price tag.
“iPad Pro details possibly revealed by leaked dummy images”
Lets see… “possibly”, “dummy”, “alleged”, “Still haven’t gotten a glimpse”, “mythical”, “possibly reveal”, “appear to show”, “could include” and “maybe even…” All these words and phrases—amounting to approximately a third of the words in the “article”—make it the a Cult of Mac click-bait piece worthy of immediate discard.
However, •if• these alleged details about the rumored, unnamed, unreleased, so-far-unviewed and therefore unREviewed Apple device possibly prove to be true or even •appear• to be true, then •perhaps• CofM readers will potentially give both the news and even the reporting of same some credibility. Maybe.
I don’t believe it exists because of these dummy units, but do because iOS 8 beta builds prove so with evidence
Neither do I doubt that a new iPad variant is in the works. Apple •always• has new models in store for us. I do feel, however, that “news” stories based on no credible information, and ladened with disclaimers are worthless. There is far more useful information one could write about. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
There have been tons of devices that showed up in iOS builds that we have never seen. That is not proof. Keep trying.
As a developer, when one of the iOS 8 beta builds came with @3x~ipad assets, that had already confirmed and convinced me that it’s real and no one can prove that wrong, since it comes from an official Apple build.
still iOS ?? :(
Lol, Apple trying to get that Surface Pro money.
