Pre-orders for the Apple Watch start on April 10th, but if you’re anything like us, you probably already know which Apple Watch you’re going to buy.

I’ve got my heart set on the Apple Watch Sport murdered out in space grey with a black sport band, even though the stainless steel Apple Watch is a little cheaper than I was expecting. Some of the Cult of Mac staff are still debating which timepiece they’ll be purchasing, but we want to hear from you, the readers, which Apple Watch version do you plan to buy?

Just like the first iPad, have to wait for the second model to come out a year or two from now

  2. Matt Hone says:

None. I’m going to wait for the 2nd or 3rd gen, when it is lighter, thinner with a better battery and the technology is even better. I’ll probably get the sport version and splash out on a third party wristband – I think Apple are charging extravagantly.

  3. Darthque says:

    neither. lol

  4. J says:

Waiting for the 2nd gen, probably, but only because of price. No way I’m paying close to $400 for a base level model. Maybe there will be some promotion down the road on Black Friday or something. If not, this model will undoubtedly be discounted by $100 or so when the new one comes out next year,

  5. M.O.B. says:

Should have been a 4th option “none of the above”

Skipping this 1st gen, maybe 2nd or 3rd. Mostly because of the prices.

  6. Daryl Val says:

None and never. The hype that Apple has brought to this watch is unnecessary. A simple $99 Pebble watch is ample enough to meet my expectations. I will never, in my life, open garage door with a watch, pay for groceries with my watch or do something as dumb as send a scribble to my wife “to let her know I thinking about her” with my watch.

  7. Beavix says:

I learned my lesson so I won’t buy a first gen product from Apple anymore. They are too expensive anyway and not really useful.

    • John says:

That is true, and even _more_ true for the watch.

Though I think the ipad mini takes the cake for having one of the crappiest 1st gen devices.

  8. Serious says:

None. There is absolutely no need for an apple watch. I am not so lazy as being unable to pull my iPhone out of my pants to see my notifications, read my email, or gasp tell the time. A fool and his money is soon parted and apple does a fantastic job of making fools of us all. The fool or fools who drop 10-17,000 dollars on an apple watch that will be outdated in 1 year makes me giggle.

  9. John says:

so many ‘different’ apple watches, and the all look the same.

and none of them is very attractive.

  10. Ricardo says:

I will buy the sport watch with the black band. Im from Peru so a friends is going To buy it in the US and bring It to me to Peru!

  11. Pawel Martin says:

Pebble Time for now, will wait for a version with decent battery, real water resistance and less ridiculous price point. And this said by an Apple fanboy.

  12. Angela R Garner says:

Wow are they serious. One price between $10,000.00-17,000.00. Heck that’s a new car. Down payment on a nice home. Really. I just seen the percentage of crime jump up over these. I can only imagine how it must be to own that much money. If you can buy one of these watches

  13. Damare Konoyaro says:

I buy them all as soon as I learn how to poop gold bars.

  14. Austin Newdick says:

    Sport, probably 42mm

  15. neo101 says:

I honestly don’t know how you guys can look at yourselves in the mirror right now.

    “Less expensive than I thought”?

What were you EXPECTING to pay for a stainless steel backed Apple Watch? $2K?

I have to wonder how much Marc Newson and Jony Ive are looking down at us all and LAUGHING, right now.

$300 plus for a LEATHER strap? ON ITS OWN? As an ACCESSORY?
$500-$600 for a “METALLIC LINK BRACELET”?
$70 for a PLASTIC (FLUORASTEMER? BLAH! PLASTIC!) BAND?

You have GOT to be fricking kidding me with these outrageous prices.

And for a watch that has:
    …NO GPS?
…No significant health tracking features? (removed, or were considered impossible)
…And most importantly……Next to NO APPS?

    Ummmm…NO. NOT BUYING. NOWHERE *CLOSE*.

I would not buy this watch even if it was a 1/4 of the “suggested retail” price.

Mostly because I didn’t expect to be looked down upon as SUCH an idiot.
Because only IDIOTS and FOOLS would buy devices as poorly conceived as these.

I’m handing my Apple fanboy papers in. I’m done. :(

  16. Trilobite Russ says:

I select NONE! Prices are outrageous, I find little if any use for available apps that I do not use already on my iPhone. And as others said I can save alot of money and keep pulling my iPhone out to do the same and much more in better way. What joke these are! Sorry I am keeping my money!

  17. Ryan says:

This one. Can’t wait till i can preorder it. My friend is set for the 42mm stainless steel with Link Bracelet.

  18. Patrick Choi says:

go back to computers..you motherfucker! mac pro…i demand customize mac pro with best Graphic card, asshole!

  19. Whocares says:

None for me. 18 hrs battery and the price are deal breaker.

  20. Daniel says:

none. Waiting for them to add a bunch of health sensors first …

  21. Marinus Beers says:

    NONE!

  22. Owen  says:

I’d like to know what Apple is planning for product lifecycle/refreshes for WATCH before I commit to paying the ridiculously high price that they are asking for the 42mm Space Black model. This is only a v1.0 product which has many shortcomings so I think I’ll wait for the 2nd or 3rd iteration of the product before I really commit my hard earned cash! I’ll buy the WATCH SPORT for now. I’m really not sure about Apple trying to market these things as fashion accessories and up-market jewellery… it goes against the technology side of the product, which will become outdated very quickly. I don’t want to be stuck with a very nice looking yet practically useless piece of technology within 2 or 3 years time given how expensive these things are for the upper models… Can I afford them, sure, but I can’t justify them. That said, they should have charged a $20K starter for WATCH EDITION… people who are willing to pay $10K for something that will be outdated within 2 years would be more than willing to pay $20K just because they can! Its just a status symbol after all… :P

    • WhiteNinjaX says:

Precisely. If they update a 4k gold watch 12 months later with incredible battery life after you just bought one how would that make you feel?

  23. William Kay says:

At these price points I’ll give it a miss, at least first generation. Wonder how many recharge cycles the battery is good for? Have bad experience with battery drop off on two successive MacBook Airs. How much will those 18 hours diminish in the course of a year, with 365 recharges?

  24. Zillo Mab says:

Oh, how I miss Steve Jobs.

  25. Noneformethanks says:

It’s Apple’s “New Coke” and it’s ugly and they’ll spend too much money replacing them from liquid damage. No thanks.

  26. marcintosh says:

None. I don’t wear a watch. And with an iPhone 6 the Apple Watch doesn’t offer any compelling reason to reconsider. But that Taptic engine does sound awesome.

  27. hagalah says:

Nope, too expensive with no function which is necessary needed

  28. flkitty says:

I believe all these comments are similar to those who said they wouldn’t buy such a big phone …see how that turned out. I plan to buy one for each family member….loyal Apple user. I have never had a ‘first model’ problem. That is Microsoft or Google glass.

  29. BayouGuy says:

I plan to start with the Sport Model, then move up to a nicer model when the 2nd or 3rd generation comes out. I just can’t see dropping $1,100. On the first generation Apple Watch.

  30. WolfB says:

I’m planning on getting the Sport, with the thought that it will only last a year until the Apple Watch 2 (or 1s?) comes out. I’d rather get a better stainless steel version, but not for one year. I agree with others that it will be far from perfect, but my original Pebble is starting to fail, so I’m in the market for a new smartwatch anyway.
