Many of us have been eagerly awaiting a new version of Tweetbot for iPad for quite a while now, as well as an updated version of Tweetbot for Mac. The wait seems like it’s drawing to a close though. Today, developer Tapbots shared some updates, giving us a roadmap for the next updates to both Tweetbots for Mac and Tweetbot for iOS.
We’ve heard before that Tweetbot 2.0 for Mac was coming soon with a totally redesigned interface appropriate to OS X Yosemite, including new lickable candy icons and other UI elements, but now we have a date.
Tapbots says Tweetbot 2.0 for Mac should arrive before this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which usually comes in June. It will be a free update for existing users. As for Tweetbot 4.0 for iOS, it will finally add iPad compatibility to the mix, consolidating the separate iPhone and iPad versions into a universal app.
Not into Tweetbot? Tapbots says it will update its calculator app, Calcbot, on both iOS and OS X, to pursue some “cool ideas for extending the app to the Today view [of Notification Center] and more.” And while Tapbots is axing Convertbot and Pastebot, weight-tracking app Weightbot is now free.
What’s taken so long? “Many think updating apps for iOS7/8 is a simple task, but with all the custom UI we have, it requires redoing the app from scratch which is months of work,” Tapbots has explained. “Those apps are also many years old now and require far more than a visual refresh…. We are going to do a better job keeping our current apps up to date with each new OS release.” Fingers crossed!

I bet Tweetbot 4 won’t be a free upgrade and they will charge for it again.. like they did with Tweetbot 3 and made us wait a year for the iPad version which never arrived.. I certainly would not be happy having to pay for V4 as Tapbots seems to make you pay for every new app version they release these days..
If they make us pay for tweetbot V4 then Tapbots can say goodbye to my support. I’m not willing to buy a new version of the same app again.
They won’t miss you. Must be nice being able to work for free.
Must be nice working for them. Look, I can do it, too!
Yeah…paying a few bucks for app every couple of years is ridiculous.
