LAS VEGAS — If shedding some body fat is one of your New Year’s resolutions, you’re probably like me and looking for all the high-tech help you can get.

Cult_of_Mac_CES_2015 Activity trackers are great at logging exercise, but if you want to measure the actual progress your muscles are making, check out the Skulpt Aim — an iPod-size device that measures your body fat percentage.

The Skulpt Aim uses electroanalysis to not only determine how much excess fat you’re carrying around, but also your muscle quality. Just spritz a little water on the muscle you want to test, press the device firmly against your muscle, and within a few seconds, Aim spits out your score.

The small device can measure 24 major muscles on your body, and uses a muscle quality score system similar to IQ tests, with 100 being average and 150 being on the top end. Skulpt claims it’s five times more accurate than bioimpedance scales and is within a 1.5 percent accuracy range of the results you’d get from professional measurement tools like those painful pinchers. It also tracks your body fat measurements to show your progress (or lack thereof).

We’ve seen a few other wearables at International CES, like InBody’s Band, that also measure body fat percentage and steps and calories burned. But if we had to pick just one, we prefer the Skulpt because you can get more detailed muscle mass measurements. And when the Apple Watch comes out, we’re not going to want to wear an extra bracelet just for muscle mass.

Skulpt told Cult of Mac it will start shipping Aim at the end of the month. It’s mostly aimed at gym rats, bodybuilders and serious athletes, but anyone can preorder it now for a cool $200.
