Riding high on the success of his iPhone video editing app Videoshop, developer Joe Riquelme decided to splurge on his parents for Christmas.
How much did he splurge? Let’s just say that he made every other kid on Earth look like little ingrates by comparison.
He paid off his parents’ mortgage in full. And he documented it for the rest of us, just so we could share in the joy.
In the video, Riquelme hands his mother an envelope. Although puzzled at first, when she opens it, she finds documentation from Bank of America, saying the mortgage has been paid off.
In addition, Riquelme included a note. It read: “Your house is paid off. Merry Xmas.”
Obviously, there’s an epic meltdown of emotion that immediately follows.
I think we can all admit, Riquelme just upped the game for the rest of us sons and daughters out there. And to think, all I gave my parents this year were some things off their Amazon wishlists.

A true gift.
Top lad.
Good gift Bro! Now that’s Christmas.
Very emotional video. Good man!
That’s life is all about.
Pretty sure most kids who come into a lot of money do something like this, and I’m pretty sure it also doesn’t make kids who don’t have a lot of money ‘look like ingrates’ because they can’t afford to. So I don’t understand what the heaps of praise are about.
Scrooge much?
Scrooge? You mean like worshipping money to the point that we praise someone who has a lot and does something with it while calling those with less ingrates?
Learn to metaphor.
What!
And the very next day they got a reverse mortgage and a new cadillac;)
Just bought his app because I want to support amazing people like this (although I’ll only do this kind of support once). Thanks for making my day Joe!
What goes around, comes around. They must have been loving, supporting parents who brought up a wonderful son. All happiness to them.
I love the mom’s reaction! What a truly beautiful, wonderful and selfless gift.
All the best to this young man.
The joke being they only had 3 months to go.
It’s been a while since I had a good cry :-)
