Although many — including Apple — would argue that Bendgate is overblown, and the iPhone 6 is no more prone to bending when treated right than any other smartphone, there’s a small but vocal minority that disagrees. If you’re one of them, there’s now a resource to track Apple Stores that will be sympathetic to your plight.
We’ve previously reported about One Of The Nine, a website spotlighting the malleability of Apple’s super-slim smartphones by posting hundreds of pictures of bent iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units. The name comes from Apple’s assertion that it has only heard of nine iPhone 6 units being bent, despite the numerous reports of bent iPhones online.
These days, though, One of the Nine is doing more than just posting pictures of bent iPhones. They’re now tracking every Apple Store that has replaced or refused to replace a bent iPhone 6. They’ll even tell you which stores you need to argue at to get them to replace it.
So far, the data looks like it’s a bit hit or miss on whether or not you’ll get your bent iPhone 6 replaced by Apple. Most stores in America tracked by One In Nine don’t seem to give up bent iPhones easily, but still, if you shop your wobbly iPhone 6 around at enough Genius Stores, it looks like you’ll eventually get your way.

So Apple believes that the bendy iPhone 6 is ‘over blown’ – hmm , kinda like Samsung believes their smart watch is ‘Amazing’… They are only aware of 9 phones that are bent even though 100s are evidenced in the video (is Apple ‘aware’ of YouTube?), so to remain true to their word, you can replace the phone – although you have to find a ‘Genius’ store that will work with you…
Whats not to worship about Apple? – besides this and …well, tax evasion …and labor exploitation.. …and…
There are people out there that are PURPOSELY bending the phones to see if they can bend it. People shouldn’t TRY to break something they just bought, but with the proliferation of these countless idiots on YouTube all trying to act like expert reviewers, that’s what they do to get attention. Go on YouTube and you’ll probably find hundreds or maybe even thousands of these teenagers and young adults with NO industry experience all trying to be Mr. Expert Product reviewer and a way they can get attention is to should how easily a Apple product breaks or they try to see what it takes to crack a screen with drop tests. I’ve seen some reviewers try the drop test and sometimes they pass with flying colors and sometimes they don’t, because there are all sorts of variables.
Sure, I’m sure Apple will implement some internal piece of metal to strengthen the product on the next model, but there isn’t really much they can do at this point but replace the units, which is more costly for Apple. The only problem is Apple is still trying to meet demand for the product to catch up to demand, so right now, it’s hard to get them in the first place.
I’ve sat on my iPhone 6 about 10 to 15 times and it hasn’t bent. I can see how it can, but you would have to sit down on a hard surface, but if you sit on a fluffy chair/couch with cushions, it’s doesn’t seem like it’s a problem, but if you buy one of these things, just get a decent case, which a lot of people do, which is going to help strengthen the device and don’t sit on hard surfaces when the device is in your back pocket.
Let’s say there are hundreds of phones, out of tens of millions of units is not a huge percentage especially when the majority of these people are PURPOSELY trying to bend the product. People need to realize that these things are not 100% bullet proof.
The problem is that some people are trying to make it sound like if you buy one, it’ll bend, when that’s just not the case. it will bend if you apply enough pressure to it, but there are other phones that break and crack just as easily, but since they aren’t Apple, they don’t get as much attention.
Bottom line, get a good quality case of the thing, don’t put in your back pocket and sit on hard surfaces and don’t purposely try to bend the thing and you probably won’t have a problem. It’s like taking a car and smashing it into a wall to see if it’s going to get damaged. Yeah, if you just tap a wall going 1 MPH, it will probably just have a surface scratch that can be buffed out, but if you hit a wall at 20MPH, it’ll probably damage something.
Tax evasion? Apple was never convicted of Tax Evasion that I’m aware of, can you cite an example of where they were actually indicted?, they were investigated, but I never read that they were ever indicted. Most large successful companies are government targets for tax evasion because Governments are always looking for people and companies that have large stock piles of money because most government over spend and waste tax payer money. Most large companies are always investigated at some point because they have lots of cash and since Apple makes a lot more profit than their competitors, they think that Apple’s doing something illegal, when the fact is that they just know how to run a company where they retain a higher percentage of profits. That’s what REALITY is. Apple doesn’t put out low margin products which bite into Net Profits.
Oh, and I’m sure most rich people have fudged with their taxes at some point, but if you look Apple has paid more in taxes than just about every other company, so Apple does pay PLENTY in taxes.
Labor Exploitation? Are you kidding? Apple doesn’t hire people in mfg. Foxconn, Pegatronics, and other outsourcing partners do that, so blaming Apple for labor exploitation is like blaming the customer that they bought blue jeans made in a sweatshop. You need to grow up and buy a ticket to get in the game. You are bringing up cheap shots with no merit behind them.
Show me a government that isn’t corrupt and have wasteful spending habits that are being covered up. Apple hasn’t been found guilty of tax evasion. If they have show proof, otherwise STFU. Apple has not been found guilty on labor exploitation. same rules apply.
And why don’t you talk about Android having so many malware issues. They have 99% of the malware that’s been on the market for a smartphone/tablet. Apple still has had less than 10 cases of malware and they are typically VERY isolated issues. Microsoft has had hundreds of thousands of malware attacks since the 90’s when the internet first was introduced, so why aren’t you discussing that? Or how about the Windows 8.1 problem where people lost data when they upgraded from Window 8? Oh, and Samsung uses outsourcing mfg that have been found with labor exploitation, so it’s not JUST Apple.
Oh, read this article. http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=15865
What a crock of shit. You guys have to keep this shit going and you know it is a non issue. But hey, Samsung and Google pay more than Apple…right?
Right. And thats why Dan Seifert (the iVerge editor) wrote a piece on how he had to replace his bent phone?
You serious? You want them to not post about the problem in fear of Apple not paying them? Interesting…and they say Samsung is the only one that pays to twist reviews.
All opinions aside, ya gotta admit the Google map tracking is pretty clever:)
This should have just been posted directly on Cult of Android.
The entire site is Cult of Android. Haven’t you figured that out. More negative Apple articles come from these guys than almost anyone else. Some are more subtle but obviously getting a little payola somewhere.
