Apple has begun contacting developers to tell them that it’s time to submit their apps for OS X Yosemite ahead of its public release later this fall. The email encourages the use of new Yosemite functions like app extensions — as well as Swift, Apple’s “innovative” new programming language.
“Make sure your apps take advantage of all the great new features in OS X Yosemite, which will be available to millions of customers around the world later this fall,” the Cupertino company says.
Ensuring their apps are ready for Yosemite on day one can be hugely beneficial to OS X developers. Not only does it give users who update straight away a smooth and stable experience, but early support for Apple’s latest OS can also boost downloads — particularly if Apple decides to feature their app.
Apple’s message comes just after it rolled out its Yosemite GM candidate and Xcode 6.1 GM seed for registered developers. We still don’t have a public release date for Yosemite just yet, but Apple is still promising a launch later this fall. When it arrives, Yosemite will be a free download via the Mac App Store for all users who have a compatible Mac.

Terrible human interface. Pale grey text on white backgrounds through out. Small Helvetica Neu fonts which are fine for Print, but TERRIBLE for screens. Doesn’t anyone at Apple care about the tens of thousands of hours of research of their predecessors? Or is it just “me me me Look what I did to put my Ego brand on the OSX” now?
It does seem that OSX is going for LESS personalization by it’s users. This interface seems like it’s moving more toward iOS on a Computer. Which I don’t think it a good thing looking at what Microsoft did.
Yosemite is beautiful! And don’t worry about what it looks like on your screen, everything will be retina within a year.
And text will STILL be too small and too grey. Are you over 45? You will be.
I think you can make the fonts larger in the accessibility options if you need it. Also text is easier to read if you activate the ‘increase contrast’.
Fonts larger, no. Increase contrast screws up pictures and graphics really badly.
I was made aware that Yosemite will be out for 21st of October?
Is just a rumor, the most probable date but no one knows for sure.
Is anyone else irritated at the login screen password requirement and the status bar across the bottom? Or is my MBP possessed?
