The display rating experts at DisplayMate got intimately acquainted with Apple’s bigger than big display over the weekend, and after thorough testing, the LCD experts pronounced Apple’s 5.5-inch display the best performing LCD display they’ve ever tested on a smartphone.
The iPhone 6 did pretty well too in their iPhone 6 Display Technology Shootout report released this morning.
Here’s the rave review they gave the iPhone 6 Plus display:
“The iPhone 6 Plus is the Best performing Smartphone LCD display that we have ever tested. It delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier display performance…
The iPhone 6 Plus matches or breaks new records in LCD Smartphone display performance for: Highest Peak Brightness, Lowest Screen Reflectance, Highest (True) Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, most accurate (pure logarithmic power-law) Intensity Scale and Gamma, most accurate Image Contrast, and the smallest Variations with Viewing Angle for Brightness, Contrast Ratio and Color.”
Apple’s smaller display also performed very well in tests, though DisplayMate noted that rescaled images look better on the 2.1 mega pixel screen of the iPhone 6 Plus instead of the 1.0 Mega Pixel iPhone 6 display. Fix text and graphics also looked better on the 6 Plus, but you’d need to have good sight to notice them.
Still, they rated the iPhone 6 display as ‘very good’ and say “most buyers will be happy with its performance….The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the current Best Mobile LCD Displays.”

This is impressive.. but Apple should have gone for FHD display for iPhone 6 too, to compete with its actual rivals like S5, M8, Lumia 930 and the likes.
I know iPhone 6’s display is great but still as the display mate says that its just ‘very good’ and the FHD display on i6 Plus is better.
The vast majority of users either don’t care or can’t tell the difference.
I just got my iPhone 6 in the mail today and the screen is beautiful. I can’t make out individual pixels and images and movies look crisp and detailed. Unless you’re comparing them side-by-side there’s very little that separates displays across the spectrum of devices.
Admittedly Samsung displays look amazing but, again, most users can’t tell the difference or aren’t buying a device to have a pissing contest with their friends over who’s display is sharper. Once you get past the screen clarity the feature sets and apps have to keep it relevant.
I think they will start to care once they get a chance to compare the FHD display to the HD display. I had the same feeling that you can’t notice the difference but believe me the difference is really noticeable.
I have compared the FHD display of Galaxy S5 with the 720P of Nexus 4 and BB Z10 and there was a huge difference in clarity and sharpness. I don’t have perfect vision yet I was able to differentiate between them.
It may be not true for everyone but at least I can notice the difference.
iPhone 6 display is beautiful. Apple make some really good screens. There is no doubt about that.
I totally agree with you there. The feature sets and the performance matter more than the display, and the display isn’t that bad on iPhone 6. Its really beautiful but iPhone 6 could have been superior to Android in every department if they had put a FHD display, I don’t want to compare with my friends to show-off the display but I just don’t feel satisfy with the fact that the Android rivals of the iPhone 6 offers a better display at lower price.
is it better then G3
