Apple will make parts of the U.K. wait for their new iPhones

The United Kingdom is lucky enough to be one of just 10 markets that will be getting the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus next Friday, September 19 — the same day it goes on sale in the U.S. But not everyone in the U.K. who pre-ordered their new phone this morning will have it delivered on launch day; those in certain parts will be forced to wait.

You probably noticed that in your order confirmation email, Apple states that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders (made before shipping times slipped) would be delivered on September 19 “in most areas.” There’s a link beneath that line that provides “more details about delivery dates,” and it takes you to a page on Apple’s website that delivers the bad news.

Apple has split the U.K. up into two zones; zone one will get the new iPhones on launch day, but zone two will have to wait until at least Monday, September 22. Some orders could be delivered as late as Thursday, September 25.

The vast majority of the U.K. falls into zone one, but a large part of Scotland is in zone two — as you can see below.

If you live on the borders of zones one and two, and you’re not sure whether you’ll get your new iPhone on launch day or not, you can look for your town on the list of post codes that fall into zone two. This will also give you a better idea of when exactly you can expect your iPhone.

For example, those in Aberdeen with post codes beginning AB14 and AB15 will get theirs on September 22, but those in Orkney must wait until September 25.

    That’s just weird. Very weird.

To be honest thats a very remote part of the uk, and its also the part of the UK i don’t live in so Happy Days.

Hmm, a nudge aimed at Scots thinking of voting yes?

I ordered mine at 9.00 am today and was told I will have to wait 3-4 weeks!

Thats because they went on sale at 8am. You were an hour late, so all the other 1000’s of people buying at 8am beat you too it. Hence why you now have to wait 3-4 weeks until the next batch comes over from China.

That is interesting I tried at 8.00 and 8.30 and I got the site updating message. Thanks anyway for the reply.

Most delivery companies will not deliver to certain areas without a surcharge being placed. I can see this being a similar instance. http://www.parcelforce.com/our-uk-delivery-zones-0 split the UK into 3 zones, but this also includes the CI and IoM. The Wishaw to Muirkirk section (underneath Glasgow) is a bit of a strange one though. Top Tip – If your ever in that area, drive to Kilncadzow (it’s pronounced Kilkagie) and head to the Village Bakery. I’ve not been in over 3 years, but trust me. You’ll want to experience this.

This is fairly standard and down to the courier they use. I just ordered something from Amazon – delivery was next day – Saturday – for where I live (a postcode not on this list) but Monday for my work location 10 miles to the north and on this list!

It’s the same for some parts of France (Pyrenees , maritime Alps, and unsurprisingly Corsica). I suspect this has more to do with UPS contracts and volume constraints

    Here’s is the French map : http://store.apple.com/fr/help/shipping_delivery#delivery_date

Yeah that’s just standard courier practice. Though it looks like a big area, it’s all mountains.

Funnily enough deliveries to Shetland (Furthest island north in Shetland) takes identical amounts of time compared to anywhere else!
