Apple delays 27-inch iMac shipments again

Apple delays 27-inch iMac shipments again

Apple’s troubles with their 27-inch iMacs just never seem to come to an end.

In December, Apple notified its authorized resellers that new volume orders would be pushed out about two weeks, following numerous complaints about screen flickering and yellowing issues with the showcase Mac, as well as numerous complaints from customers who received broken iMacs in shipping.

Just last week, Apple finally started shipping replacement 27-inch iMacs back to their authorized resellers… but today, Apple Insider is reporting that those same machines now have an estimated three-week ship time when ordered through Apple.com.

In truth, it seems like there’s a load of issues here: while the 27-inch iMac indisputably has some screen issues that need to be further investigated, mostly, it’s just a victim of its own success: it was the best-selling desktop system in America last quarter.

Still, it’s got to be frustrating both for prospective customers and Apple themselves that they just can’t quite seem to squelch the last of their 27-inch iMac issues. Let’s hope this is the last one.

I had enough cash in a budget line to get a refurbed 21.5 inch iMac, although I desperately wanted a 27. I had dampened my expectations on the screen size due to the fact that I work on a 24′ at the office. Got it last night and WOW what a screen. The 16:9 ratio is wonderful and I simply can’t believe how crisp and how much better the screen is on the 21.5 than the 24 (and I loved it when I first got it). I just hope the 27s get fixed soon. It’s next on my list!

“, it’s just a victim of its own success: it was the best-selling desktop system in America last quarter.”

No its bad quality control at the factory.

I wan’t one, but I’m waiting until Apple sorts out its display problems.

Alex, you really can’t make that statement. Despite very loud talking you, nor even John B has the stats on how many 27 inch computers have shipped. how many turned on with screen issues, didn’t turn on, or were cracked on arrival. etc.
nor do you know exactly what share of folks got a second bad computer, how many used the firmware update and no more problems or how many used it and still problems. what the exact specs of the ‘damaged’ machines are (in particular the graphics cards) and so on
so who knows how big this issue is and whether you can claim a lack of quality control or not.

folks with an issue talk and talk loud. folks with no issue typically don’t praise. so using blogs to assess QC is always skewed to ‘crap’

I order mine on dec 31 and still its waiting in the factory 4 days ago I had a status change from not shipped yet to prepared for shipment, so I am guessing it would leave by the end of this week, and guess what it hasn´t so meaning I am going to get an iMac that is going to take a month that I place the order. Not two weeks or 3 weeks.

I ordered my IMac 27 on Jan 6th, 2010 – waited my 3 weeks and just got a email stating it is going to be another 3 weeks before they ship it. Feb 16th is expected shipping date.
