Unmonday: Gorgeous Ceramic AirPlay Speakers From Finland

The Unmonday 4.3L is a $700 ceramic AirPlay speaker which comes with its own leather carrying case. It is gorgeous, and if you want to use it to its full potential, you’re going to have to buy another four of them.

Unmonday is also the name of the Finnish company that makes this amazing folly. The speaker has ten hours of battery life, and can be charged or powered with a plain AC cable. The amp, Wi-Fi receiver and Dolby decoder are hidden inside the porcelain body.

The speakers are mono. For a stereo pair, you need to buy two. For full-on Dolby movie-watching you’ll need five of them, coming in at $3,500. That’s $3,500 for a set of speakers that will smash if you drop them.

The interface is neat, though. Inside each speaker is an accelerometer. This detects which side the speaker is laying on and assigns it a channel accordingly. Thus, changing the speaker from a left speaker to a rear right-channel speaker is done just by rolling it.

The Unmonday speakers should be available soon, after having completed a successful Kickstarter campaign. And if you really, really want a whole set (collect ‘em all!) then you can still enjoy the Kickstarter intro price until the end of this week.
