The iPhone 5 Destroys Samsung Galaxy S3 In Real Life Drop Test

The iPhone 5 looks pretty, but how does it fare when it’s actually used in the real world? If you accidentally drop it from 5 feet, will it shatter? Android Authority is already on the case and did a drop test comparison with the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, which you can watch in the video above.

The iPhone 5 dominated the competition. It picked up a few scratches and dings, but the screen never shattered after being dropped 4 times, whereas the S3 screen cracked multiple times and its back casing flew off.

The next big hunk of poorly constructed cheap plastic is already here.

  • markrlangston

After the cover is completely separated from the S3 he says, “…the back cover doesn’t really matter; it’s just cheap plastic anyway”.

Regardless of the drop test it’s clear to even the most hardcore of Android fans that the build quality of the “world’s best selling smartphone” is crap. No doubt the OS has some bells & whistles that set it apart from iOS (a completely different debate) but it’s clear that Apple’s manufacturing process and build quality have no equal.

The results iPhone 5 PASS Galaxy S III FAIL.

Hey, if you don’t want the dinged iPhone 5, I’ll take it off your hands. lol

Nice the iPhone 5 just kicked the crap out of the Samsung galaxy junk! And Apple didn’t even have to use junky plastic like the Samsung device uses to do it! Fandroids are probably blowing a fuse right now! LoL

How is this a controlled test? He is dropping the phones on an non-uniform surface, and there is no control of orientation etc. That would be fine if a statistically significant number of phones were dropped, but a couple drops proves nothing. A repeat of this test could easily swing the other way.

I’ve already dinged my iphone 5. No breakage, just a small corner nick on the surrounding band. Oh well, guess I can say it’s broken in now.

When the Android Authority says Galaxy S3 is made of “Cheap Plastic” than I have to believe them. Great job iP5 on those drops. I’ll never test my phone but it’s great to see the phone’s potential. Too bad I’m stuck with iP4S for another year.

While i´m actually surprised that the iphone 5 did better than the galaxy S3, it amazes me that some people think that means the iphone has the best build quality of any phone. Both the galaxy S3 and the iphone 5 are crap when compared no any Lumia phone, for exemple. I dare anyone to do a drop test comparison between those and the iphone 5. By the way, the upcoming Lumia 920 is also better than the iphone 5 with regards to pretty much everything except of thinkness and weight. It has a better screen, far better camera http://nokiapoweruser.com/2012/09/22/iphone-5-smoked-by-lumia-920-in-low-light-shootout-yup-its-final-now/
better build quality and better OS. iphone users will have to get used to being second best now because the Lumia 920 is the best phone of the year

Now was that picture actually taken by the 920 or did they fake that one too?

And you are totally right, it beats it in everything but thinkness. I believe they call that a Freudian slip.

You need to try some thinkness.
