We’ve been waiting to hear official word from Apple about when pre-orders for the iPhone 5 will begin, so we can set our alarms for tomorrow morning. Even though Cupertino has been silent on the matter so far, both Sprint and Verizon have confirmed that they will start taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5 at 12:01AM PST.
Last year pre-order supply diminished quickly, and shipping dates slipped for those who didn’t pre-order early enough. If you miss out on the pre-order tomorrow morning you can always go wait in line at your local Apple Store, or buy the iPhone 5 from your carrier.
Update: Apple has just confirmed in an email to WIRED that online pre-orders will start at 12:01AM PST.

What about global preorders? The UK Apple website says that preorders will start on Friday, which will be 8 hours ahead of PST. Does that mean I can stay up till midnight tonight (UK time) or wait till 8am tomorrow?!
I assume you mean PDT and not PST.
Why do people who don’t know the difference between standard time and daylight saving time use the abbreviations? It’s Daylight Time, which we’ll be on until November 4, when it we’ll revert to Standard Time.
I guess, if the author lives in Arizona, he’s not on Daylight Time, and thus throws a wrench into the works. Even though it’s PDT in California, He’s on MST in Arizona…
Better the posted time should reference GMT -7 hours…
