Apple’s Incredible Attention To Detail In iOS 6 Means Slider Reflections Change As You Tilt Your Device

Notice the slight difference in reflection on these sliders, which I got just by tilting my iPhone?

Apple is renowned for its obsession with detail and making even the slightest things — such as internal components — just as beautiful as the devices that house them. That’s why, during his recent WWDC keynote, Tim Cook said Apple’s new MacBook Pro was more beautiful on the inside than rival machines are on the outside.

This attention to detail is evident in iOS 6, where the slider reflections change as you tilt your device. As noted by Gizmodo reader Zach, the metallic sliders in iOS 6 are incredible clever. As you tilt your device, the reflection on them changes. Even the slightest of movements is detected.

You can just about see it in this video, though it is a little too dark to see clearly. Just look closely at the round slider.

It’s pretty incredible when you think about it. I mean, I don’t mean to get so excited over something so small, but just think about the level of effort Apple put into a feature so small that the majority of us would never ever have noticed.

Could you see its competitors spending time on little things like this?

  • John Cotts

OMG, did they get a patent for that?

Another way to look at this is that Apple is running out of big ideas and are therefore having too much time on their hands to spend on this sort of thing.

Wont that take up insane ammounts of battery? Constantly routing power through the accelerometer?

This is nice. They indicate Apple still focusses on details, despite some of the things they did (think iCal and address book interfaces in Lion).

I’m sure they sorted that part out. Including the graphics overhog that may ensue.

I wonder if they’ll shine the other buttons as well like Play/Pause/Rewind/FF.

If you want to see it here, just see the picture above and hold your eyes on the second slider and scroll the page up and down. You will see the slider spinning

Is this part of the, 1 out of hundreds of new features in iOS 6?

  • cprblak

How can they have something this detailed and cool yet continue to use faux leather in other apps?

And this is why I love Apple. If you want to try out the iOS 6 beta you can register your UDID here:
