When we saw Nokia’s 808 PureView at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we were grudgingly — but decidedly — impressed. Nokia’s 41MP+ camera phone seemed like a joke at first blush, but using satellite imaging technology and pixel oversampling, Nokia has managed to get SLR-quality shots out of a cameraphone. It simply blows the iPhone 4S’s camera out of the water.
But is the 808 PureView just a great camera strapped to a mediocre phone? Not entirely. Sure, as an actual device, the iPhone 4S is leaps and bounds above the Symbian (!) based 808 PureView, but if you want a great multimedia recording device in your pocket that’s also a phone, the 808 PureView comes out ahead.
Case in point. In the video above, Nokia shows off their new Rich Recording Technology, which will be debuting with the PureView 808. The Rich Recording Tech allows a broader range of sound to be captured, as well as far louder audio, without distortion or leaving data behind. In fact, according to Nokia, Rich Recording can record audio up to four times as loud as the iPhone 4S without distortion.
It’s really too bad. The 808 PureView is great technology, but without any apps to take advantage of Nokia’s incredible new cameraphone, the PureView is guaranteed to pretty much be a curio. I’m holding out hope that Apple can license some of these ideas down the road and bring them to market right.

That’s amazing. Now, does it make calls? Does it check email? Does it go online?
Why does Nokia concentrate so much attention on stupid Megapixels? I used to have N95 years ago (when it first came out) and yes – the camera was great. But the phone sucked at pretty much everything else.
I’m pretty sure the phone can handle all of those things pretty well. I mean, Symbian isn’t exactly a generic dumbphone OS. It was once said to be a big contender against iOS, Android, WebOS, BBOS and Windows Mobile (now Windows Phone).
“Now, does it make calls? Does it check email? Does it go online?” – Yes, Yes, Yes. I am so sorry, your questions are stupid. Do some research and you will find out “why does Nokia concentrate so much attention on stupid Megapixels”. Do some research and you will find out that it even has a Microsoft Exchange… Do some research and you will find out that you can do so much things with it, Iphone can not even dream about… Go and try Nokia Belle device, come back and tell me what you think. You must try device before you post something. If you can’t try it for some reason, at least DO RESEARCH BEFORE YOU POST your “smart” opinion.
What a great phone! But still I am still using my Nokia E71 for business work, and casual work/fun on iPhone 4. The Nokia E7 just come out almost 3 years later, which is already too late.
As a result, Nokia 808 will be a great camera phone, but not my casual phone ;). The dying OS & lack of app support , lack of Mac client really turn it away.

I think it was a silly move on Nokias behalf for not using Windows 7 as the main OS.
Assuming that iPhone is smartphone C, why the crap is it not in the video clip?
correction your hoping apple steals the techology and call it a fancy name, like they always do!
over 500,000 apps for iphone LMFAO WTF !!!
… eerrr that will be when recording video ! ?
I like how in the iOS world, they need third party apps to take advantage of technology.
Here’s an idea: How about buying a phone that comes with everything you need so you don’t need to spend more money making it complete?
Also, the N8 already blows the 4s camera away.
