When Apple announced iPhoto for iOS at the recent iPad keynote, they specifically made it incompatible with both the first generation iPad as well as the fourth generation iPod touch. In reality, iPhoto can run smoothly on both of these devices with just a little workaround. In this video, I’ll show you the trick to getting iPhoto running on your unsupported device.
You can find iPhone Configuration Utility here.

Awesome! Worked on my iPad 1. thanks so much!!!
will this work on an iPhone 4S 5.0.1 or crash due to missing APIs?
I tried it on my iPad 2 to keep from updating… Sadly, it just crashes when it tries to import the photo library.
Make sure you do this on your iTunes account that is synced to your device or it will not work
Did this earlier today and already posted a few photos to my Facebook. (iPad 1). Love the new iPhoto now I may actually turn photo stream back on since this makes it have a more apparent reason. I was wondering if Camera Roll and iPhoto will merge in the new renditions of the app. Should have been a free app in my opinion.
It crashes on iPhone 4S under IOS 5.0.1
The iPad2 is supported for iPhoto… no need to do a workaround.
I was trying to keep on iOS 5.0.1
I didn’t want to lose my jailbreak.
Didn’t work though :(
I was responding to his question about 5.0.1
there is a way I found, but its soo convoluted and ridiculous, its posted online somewhere, but it requires importing your photo library on a 5.1 device then mirroring the same library on your 5.0.1 device and copying the appropriate iPhoto files over
like i said its not worth the time or the effort lol, il wait for my iPad 3 on friday :D, gonna try paying for an iResign activation too
I certainly don’t advocate stealing of apps. Even though I jailbreak my iDevices, it’s only for added functionality like lockinfo.
Don’t be cheap, just buy the app. I can’t think of many that are over $10.
Your accent is terrible. You keep saying “iPad 1 & iPad Touch”. It’s “iPod” Touch.
Do what? I followed the steps but then when I went to iTunes to sync my device I kept getting messages saying my iPod Touch was no longer authorized on my computer. Eek!
always here to help!
you can sync via iCloud. Otherwise you can also sync through iTunes again by removing the app.
I’ts not terrible. It’s just different to yours, apparently. Where are you from Scott?
Thanks so much! Exactly what I wanted, worked perfectly. Appreciate the posting.
Do you need to update to iOS 5.1 first ? Followed all the steps carefully but iPhoto won’t show to install on my iPad 1
After installing on my iPad 1 (updated to iOS 5.1, iTunes 10.6 asks me to re-authorize my computer for the apps installed on the iPad. Once I do, it tells me that the machine is already authorized, but once again prompts me to authorize it.
If I click on Cancel, it tells me that my iPad is not authorized for the apps installed (iPhoto) and that the app will be deleted during sync, which is exactly what happens.
Anyone know if there’s a way to “fix” that problem?
I think the authorise problem may be related to having different accounts for purchases and for your iCloud etc ID.
The whole process worked perfect, I got the app on my iPad 1 and then as mentioned above, when synching it forces me to delete the app, because my computer is not authorised. Apple obviously know that this kind of process is not allowed. Best not to mess with it.
Is there any way to get iTunes to not remove this from my iPod after I sync it? It worked well, but disappeared after a sync.
What? It takes 2 minutes to reinstall. Honestly, people. It’s your device. If Apple doesn’t want you to do it, then they can suck it. And no, I don’t jailbreak any of my devices. I just wanted iPhoto on my iPad. I keep jumping through their hoops and they keep screwing me. I’ll buy a new iPad when my iPad stops working…
Nope. It’s the same account used for iCloud and for purchasing apps. Apparently, Grant McConnaughey (below) is having the same issue.
i got an error message. i did this on my PC and i got the following message, any help would really help!
Perhaps I missed it in your video but I believe you fail to mention that post performing this methode you can not sync your iPad via iTunes. The following message displays:
“This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPad “Scooter’s iPad”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store? If you do not authorize this computer, the app “iPhoto” and its data will be deleted from this iPad.”
Authorizing the computer does nothing as it is already authorized.
The comes up via USB or wireless snyc and outside the noted option above in another comment for iCloud, is show stopper for me. I move content around at home a lot and just don’t want to keep reloading the app.
Great idea just not practical for me.
