Here at Cult of Mac, we’re anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the iPad 3. In the mean time, we can only speculate. So here’s our analysis of the secret meanings behind Apple’s iPad 3 invitation. Modest expectations, wouldn’t you say?

What the heck? This is ridiculous.
Over-thinking it. Your doing it right.
These are beyond stupid and pointless.
I disagree with the triangle shape and lack of retina display. Look at the icon the finger is touching. It’s crisp and clear. Also, the invitation says something for you to see, clearly meaning retina display. The blurry icons may mean that the low res displays are a thing of the past, considering that’s not what the camera or finger is focused on. Also, you forgot to mention the lack of a home button. I think that’s what they mean by “and touch”. That’s why iOS 5 for iPad got gestures; so they could remove the home button. (They didn’t need to add gestures to the iPhone or iPod touch yet because by the time the next gen iPhone and iPod touch come around, they’ll also release iOS 6.) Just my thoughts.
LOL at the comments.
I agree. I don’t believe half of these such as waterproof design, no preinstalled apps, no white option and absence of retina display. I would really like a touch-sensitive border with no home button and a glass back similar to the iPhone 4/4S.
What are you talking about? The icons are super crisp and clear! Wallpaper is the default droplet wallpaper preinstalled on all idevices, although, if it was waterproof it would be pretty awesome. Triangular design? Heck no. They would never make an iTri (see what I did there?) because it would be totally weird. Why would they only make one color iPad and one color of smart cover? That’s just weird. Don’t over analyze.
Haha. Nice.
But +1 for the touchable bezel.
i can’t figure out if this is a funny or serious post…
Wow. Commenters think this is a serious analysis. That’s just sad.
Oooooohhhhh do you think we’ll get a triangle ipad just like from the office?
I HAZ A HAPPEE!!!!!!
Lack of pre-installed apps, triangular desing, only black model only gray smart covers are you kidding me!
Ummmm, yeah. It’s not a serious post.
Wow
Oh man… you must be some kind of conspiracy theorist.
we have something you really have to see (updated apple tv????). and touch (iPad, obviously)
I’m totally digging the hyperbole! Keep it up, cult!
No home button?
Anybody else notice the LACK of a home button in the picture?
I strongly believe that the iPad 3 is infact NOT in a sideways view. The image is taken at that angle so that the home button area is not revealed. The iPad itself is standing upright as if on a “wall”. It might be far fetched but this could also explain the lighting on the thumb and the secret “home button” may be hidden on the opposite side of us hinting at a possible redesign home button or touch only bezel? Any thoughts?
Three (stands for 3) sided triangle?
ah ha for people with 3 hands!
This is quite humorous. It jus shows that Cult of Mac has a sense of humor. I mean, I spent a large portion of my day scrambling the net for any, ANY additional piece of information about the ‘invite’. Some “speculations” reached absurd levels. But isn’t that always with Apple? We’re just way to excited about what it has to offer.
You should be fired this is most retarded thing I have read in a while. We are all dumber now having read it.
IF you save the pic and open it with photoshop setting zoom level to 800%, and opacity to 0% you can clearly see the home button hidden underneath the bezel.
Infact, you’ll find 3 Home buttons.
And THAT’S, iPad 3 for ya.
lol at all the people with no sense of humor
I swear, I cannot tell a serious post from a humorous post on this site anymore. In hindsight, this is kind of funny.
wow people actually believe this…lol
it is obvious that the invitation was designed by Dan Brown and decrypted by Robert Langdon!
This plat are totally just to make funny you know…
The comments on this post are hilarious!
A lot of people don’t seem to get that it’s not serious… I’m kinda surprised actually. I thought it was pretty obvious that it’s a joke. I guess some people are just waaay to literal.
What if it is an iTV? ;)
“These are beyond stupid and pointless.” – You are beyond stupid for not getting the joke
It’s a satire article, relax :))
why would you even attempt satire? no one ever gets it…
(edit: except Adrian above)
The 7 on the calendar clearly means a 7″ ipad
You had me at “triangular design”. Why has no one thought of this before now?! Score one more for the Apple team.
Really? You’re thinking too hard then.
And you should be fired for your complete lack of a funny bone. That’s a quite necessary piece of anatomy when commenting on CoM. Feel free to sue me for workplace discrimination.
I strongly believe comments beginning in “I strongly believe” should be completely disregarded when attached to an article containing humor. Oh…wait…
“And touch” – What, no iPod Touch update thoughts?
I’m sorry but if you want anyone to fall for such tripe it needs to be written by someone old enough to drink something stronger than milk.
Everyone expects that in the fall during the standard ‘iPod’ event
False. Dunder Mifflin sells the Sabre Pyramid.
ROFL! I’ll take 5.
I’ve read so many so ridiculous analyses of that invite today that weren’t jokes that I really wasn’t sure about this one…
wow the comments alone are more funny than the image!!!
but seriously, I’m all for triangles.
With the 3 icons on the display, it may be a smaller version of iPad, prbly a 7 inch one to make it cost effective now that they will be catering to the student poulation with their textbook publishing feature lauched a few months back….. to compete with the Kindle Fire.
Dunder Mifflin sells the Sabre Pyramid.
If you position the fingers of your hand exactly like that in the photo and them lift them off of the bezel, your hand is forming the letter “d”…..that’s right folks…..3 icons and a “D”…or 3D
My comment got more “likes” than yours did, so I’m right… nyahh nyahh nyahh!
A month too early.
Next time try to keep your analysis to yourself… this is garbage.
