BARCELONA, MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2012 — Speck, the prolific and (very friendly) gadget case maker, had something very special on show at the Mobile World Congress Mobile Focus even last night: An iPad 3 case, which you see above, now liberated and comfortable in the Cult of Mac Barcelona HQ. But all is not as it seems. It turns out the case isn’t quite as mysterious as you might think.

The current design fits the iPad 2, but will be Speck’s first case for the iPad 3 once launched. Speck says that while some of its competitors might jump the gun on case designs and then end up with thousands of unsold units in their warehouses ([cough] iPhone 5 [/cough]), Speck is happy to wait and see. So the case above will launch slightly tweaked for any changes that might come with the iPad 3.

It’s a handy enough case, designed to let you user your iPad as an office replacement. There are two sections. One at the back for the iPad, and one at the front to hold business cards, brochures and other dead-tree detritus. It has a hard shell design, but remains light and fairly slim.

There would be more photos, but the ones I shot are mostly blurred thanks to John Brownlee constantly grabbng at the case as I tried to photograph it.
